Used Touareg or new Tiguan?

Buying again, would you buy a used Touareg, or a new Tiguan, at around the same price?

Obviously asking in this forum as I know the answer I'd get in the Touareg forum. Think it might be a bit more balanced in this one?

It much depends from the needs, we have both. If you use it only in the city, then new is new, so I would go for Tiguan.

I'll echo this.
The only reason you would need the touareg is if you want a bigger boot and slight bigger passenger compartment.

In reality if you are looking at going off-road enough that you need a proper 4WD then you should be looking at a Nissan Patrol.

That w10 is awefully tempting though... But yeah as mentioned Tiguan for city plus abit of off roading. But if you've gotten a family with kids and plan to go offroad regularly def consider a patrol or a prado etc

The V10 could be a money pit as a secondhand car.

For city driving, the FWD 118TSI is sufficient? It's hard to find a good used Touareg for the price of that one.

Reliability/ease of repair if anything goes wrong is the big one, any outback town has a nissan and a toyota dealership to repair things.
Body panels cost a lot more to replace if you get them damaged.
Harder to find premium fuel if you go anywhere off the beaten track.
Bigger brakes means it's harder to find suitable off-road tyres that fit on the wheels.

In a few years, when my daughter buy a new Touareg or something else, I'm planning to use our Touareg for off roading and don't see it as less capable or reliable than Nissan or Toyota, but the opposite.

Touareg's have a well respected off-road capability. And...you 'average' outback Nissan/Tojo dealership won't be flushed with spare parts.
Body panels cost a lot more to replace if you get them damaged. Meh...ding it? Drive it home and get the panels fixed as if you were involved in a town 'accident'.

I know which 4WD/AWD I'd prefer to be in to do the Canning Stock Route.
