I have been offered a used October 2010 Tiguan 5N MY11 103TDi with the 7sp DSG for somewhere around $Aus 28000. I am currently a friend of the owner. The car has done 24000Km, the low kilometers due to the owner being overseas for 6 months each year.

The owner, whilst not mechanically minded, is very fussy and the car seems to be in immaculate "as new" condition. Services are precisely up to date as are recall modifications.

I have fallen in love with this car! But, I have concerns about the lack of ongoing Warranty particularly in respect of the DSG 7 speed. I have read elsewhere that VW have increased the gearbox Warranty from 3 to 5 years but I can't find confirmation of this. I have also read that the DSG in the Tiguan is a much more substantial unit than that in the Golf

My dilemma is that I really like this car and I value my friendship with the owner however I have to be sensible and cover my concerns (?)

My question basically is at what price would this be a good buy? (for information the original 2010 on road cost was $41000)

Cheers,
Here's my suggestion.
NEVER EVER buy a car from a friend/mate/family member or anyone you know full stop. You would hate it if a car ruined your relationship with them. There are MANY cars out there to find. It's different if, say for example, your dad passed a car down to their son or daughter that had been in the family for years.
So often ends in angst once money comes into a relationship.
