Upgrade RCD310 to 510 in my Tiguan, very happy :)

Surprised how cheap the RCD510 is in China atm, parents sent one to me through post, installed and work perfectly, only cost $100 - exc shipping. Want to share this info with ppl interested. I think its a really good deal.

Are we talking a genuine VW RCD510 or a clone?

And is anyone able to tell me if a (genuine) RCD510 would need a VCDS/VAGcom session to code it into a Tiguan when upgrading from an RCD310 (I believe the install of an RNS 510 needs VCDS/VAGcom to get it working fully but haven't heard anything about the RCD510...) or is it purely 'Plug and Play'?

Plug and play to upgrade the 310 to a RCD510.

The RNS510 is also plug and play, but may require VCD coding in order to have the additional features of MFD integration and full functionality of steering wheel controls.

I have been in this forum for a while and found many useful info here.
For the 510, I am not trying to sell anything just share this deal with others.
Very surprised to see it's so cheap in China now, probably many drivers there upgraded to the higher end devices.
From what I can tell, the one I installed is brand new (with screen protective film on it when received it and no scratch or anything) and genuine, it has Delphi brand on that.
1st time turned on, put the radio code in, it had Chinese menu display but changed it to English was easy.
Installation was simple, plug and play, no VCDS coding required.
Steering wheel controls worked fine.

1.) has sound quality improved? I know there are extra feature in RCD510, like touch screen, but does it actually improve the sound compoared to original 310?
2.) I do not have any connections in China, can you recommend a way from purchase from China for a price similar to yours? Thannks.

Response for your questions:
1, Not much difference for my ears. To gain sound improvement I believe it's more effective to upgrade the speakers and amplifier. Apart from touch screen, RCD510's SD card support I am fond of, much easier to update music collection for Tiguan now.
2, I contacted the seller who sold 510 to me, he's not willing to send it over to OZ ATM. Might be possible to ask sellers on aliexpress to arrange the delivery? Sorry, not expert in this area.

Yep, it does as long as using unicode, Japanese characters supported as well.
