Tires on a tiguan.

I thought i would fill this in.
I have driven Tiguans On 7 different types of tires
all the same cars.
the way VW works is they are not tied down to a specific tyre supplier.
otherwise there could be a wait..
i assume they negotiate with the distributer for a batch of each tire.

you may have any of the following.

Bridgestone Dueller HT
Hankooks
pirelli scorpions.
goodyear eagle (18s)
continental conticrosscontact (18s)
kumho
toyos

it is pot luck what you get.
i have driven on all of them and i find the Hankooks are the nicest and quietest to drive on.
Each to their own though.

picked up new tiguan 2 weeks ago. got the hankook tyres. i was very suprise. hope it last. the fuel door said the tyre pressure is 220. i checked it and the tyres were 250. so how much should i pump it up? the care thread said 10% less so should i pump it up to 200? i got it at 210 now it seems low. what should it be?

I have my front tyres at 36PSI and back at 34 or 35PSI.

The Care Thread says 10% less than the TYRE MANUFACTURERS recommended max, not VW's. If you look on the tyre wall you'll see a max pressure recommendation. That's the number you use and take 10% off of AS A GUIDE. There's no hard and fast rule though. If you travel on rough roads (eg farm roads) it's a more comfortable ride if you make the tyres a bit softer. For better fuel economy make them a bit harder (but not too hard otherwise you get excess wear in the centre of the tread and you may lose traction because the tyres contact area is decreased).

Every tyre brand is different. I'd start with 38psi front and 36psi rear and than watch the tread area to see if you're getting an even wear (tread depth should be the same, sides and the middle). Drive 1,000km than correct the pressure, if the wear is not even.

My 2.0T 4Motion in the US came with Michelin Latitude HP but I don't think they are very common as OE tires. I'm super glad I didn't get any of the others because I plan on selling them and they're the most expensive. Gonna go with separate winter and summer wheels/tires.

My diesel has the figures in the fuel flap and suggests 32 all round for normal use and 36 front 39 rear for high loads.

Tyre pressures are a fairly subjective thing.

As it appears the minimum factory recomendation is 32psi all round & the maximum (tyre) manufacturers limit is 44psi, then Nirvana lies somewhere inbetween. Experiment a bit to get the ride & handling compromise that suits you, your driving style, the roads you drive on & the tyres that are fitted.

My suggestion: either 36F/36R or 36F/34R

Well, I'd given you what I set mine at before (36 front, 34 or 35 rear) but here's another way you could do it:

Find a quiet car park with a smooth concrete floor. Set your tyre pressures, then evenly sprinkle talcum powder for a couple of meters in front of each wheel. Moisten each tyre and then drive your Tig forward a couple of meters over the talc powder. Check what the contact pad of your tyre is by where the talc powder has stuck to it. If the powder doesn't go to the tyre tread edges thent he tyre is too hard and the tread will wear in the centre. Release some pressure (1PSI?) and test again.

...or you could just take someone elses advice. As far as the pressures recommended on the inside of the fuel flap go, I have found that to be way too soft for general use and the shoulders wear on the tyres. The only time I'd run the tyres softer is if I am traveling on rough roads like gravel roads.
