Tyre Wear, auto wipers, windscreen condition

    Morning all

A couple of quick questions for all the current model Tiguan owners. Mine is a late 2011 132TSI

Tyre wear - how many of you are finding your front tyres are quite feathered on both the inner and outer edges of your tyres? I dont race the car nor throw it around lots, but i have found my tyres are quite badly feathered on both sides after only 6000klms. I am running 36psi in them. Its got Pirelli P6's on it

Auto wipers - the recent Sydney rain has shown me just how bad they are. Set on what i would call the most sensitive setting (ie wipe when the windscreen gets ildly wet) they tend to work quite erratically. I understand they operate off a sensor which relies on water outside the sensor, but i find a lot of the time they will either go off when the windscreen is basically dry or they wont go off at all and i have to manually turn them on. Has anyone else experienced this?

rear wiper - can the wiping function when putting the car in reverse be disabled when the wipers are in the auto mode? I park my car quite often half under cover and there is nothing worse than hearing the rear wiper go off because the front windscreen is wet. I know i can switch the auto wipers off at the stalk but i believe i shouldnt have to. I also know it is operated off the front sensor, which in my case is wet, but i am hoping i can disable this function through VAGCOM.

Windscreen condition - First thing to note is the suction cup marks on the windscreen which you cannot get rid of. Does everyone have these? Has anyone been able to get rid of them? This will be brought up at the first service and i will be demanding it gets fixed. I dont care if they have to replace the windscreen. I should be a bit clearer with this one and note these are not from a GPS carrier, these are from when the factory has fitted the windscreen.

My windscreen, when wet, is absolutely filthy on the outside and has the wiper marks that i have only ever come to expect from cars with over 100,000klms. Does anyone know how to get rid of it? I have tried a clay bar, autoglym, wax, brake clean, nothing will clean it off. Its quite annoying as when driving at night it makes it quite hard to see out of and in actual fact quite dangerous. I dont believe VWA will do anything about this but given i havent even topped up the washer bottle and its still running the windscreen additive they provide form the factory i think its unacceptable. The wiper blades are also the factory fitted ones.

Any adivce or feedback would be great.

You can try AutoGlym Glass Polish on your windsreen.
As far st the "I have the GPS" rings on the inside of the windscreen go, I don't think that they will replace it or even try to fix it. But hey, you can try and let us know.

Tyres i would suggest would be an alignment issue.
I have pushed mine hard and still expect to see 20-25k out of them.
I made sure when i picked the car up that it had an alignment as they jostle around on the boat on the way over here and can be out of alignment/to/camber etc.

Autowipers tend to be a bit erratic on most of the cars.
The reccomendation is that you give the sensor (in the stalk of the rear view mirror where it meets the windscreen) a wipe over to make sure it is sensing accurately.

The rear wiper issue i can't help with other than suggesting that auto wipers be turned off when you start the car.

Windscreen does sounds a bit dodgy, mine never had suction cup marks and cleans up really well.

When you say "i have gps rings', do you mean i have used one and cant remove the marks, or is this what they have been nic named? as the marks on mine are definitely from the factory.

Have only had my car a few weeks, but have noticed similar circular "suction cup" marks on the back window just recently. I have yet to try and clean them off. Can't say I've noticed anything like that on the front windscreen.

Also haven't had any problems with the auto-wiping function. Maybe I'm slow, but your comment about this doesn't seem to make sense to me.

I have a 2010 Tig 125 so not sure if things are different with the newer model with the wipers etc... but here goes....
Not sure if it can be done by VAGCOM but pretty sure its a reverse function and the switch position is irrelevant. I have never had my rear wiper come on automatically when the front ones come on. I have to manually turn it on then it will be on an intermittent setting not all the time.

Thanks team_v, will get them to align it when i take it in for its first service.

Toby, on the stalk there is a switch that allows you to set the sensitivity of the rain sensor. Due to the condition of my windscreen i have mine set to the most sensitive setting, which means it should go off very easily. I am finding my windscreen wipers go off when the windscreen is dry or it wont go off at all and i need to manually switch them on.

Its a pain in the arse because i paid for the comfort pack so i wouldnt need to worry about turning them on and off. Climate control was something i dont really like, but auto wipers and lights is just nice to have as they should just be a set and forget thing.

You know its quite strange because people say that VW and Audi are the same car and there shouldnt be any difference, but i can assure you there most certainly is. The Audi functioned perfectly, but the VW seems to lack that refinement for some reason which is a little disappointing

blutopless, they must have changed. With the current model the rear wiper goes off when a few things happen. It needs to have the auto wipers turned on, obviously the windscreen sensor needs to sense its wet and it only happens when you put the car in reverse. Its a great function, but given i park my car half under cover its a bit annoying. As above i got the comfort pack so everything would be set and forget but seems i will have to turn the wipers on and off to stop it happening lol Its something simple, but something that makes the car that little nicer if you know what i mean

That was my main reason for not getting the comfort pack.

As i said above i purchased it based on my experiences with my Audi. There are quite a few things that worked flawlessly on the Audi that are a bitter disappointment on the VW. Given they basically come from the same place you would hope that simple things like wipers would work exactly the same, but its not the case.

Yep, definitaly GPS ring what I was reffering to. Now, when you made it clear what kind of rings you have, you shouldn't have a problem to get it sorted out.
