I was thinking of going 225/65x16 which would keep me within the 4% variance on OEM tyre laws that we have here in Aus. I would not give as much extra tyre sidewall as what you are suggesting, but still better than OEM.

I'm all for going to a 70 series tyre when ours are due. Looking at similar to Cooper ATR or ST in 215/70x16. Not worried about the speedo difference as that can be corrected. In a LT (light truck) variant you will get a much stronger tyre than the 'passenger rated' tyres the cars are shipped with.
