Tinted or smoked tail lights for MY12 Tig

    Anyone done this?

I basically want to have the darker look. But not to the point of making the car less visible at night.

Am thinking of just tinting them, much like tinting your windows, but nothing too dark. Anyone done this or know the cost of doing this?

    Thanks.
    Cheers, Abuthen.

Hi you get tinting film from places like lamin-x but I plan on getting mine spray tinted by a bodyshop. They can then bake them dry in the auto oven to get that OEM finish. I plan on only having a slightly darker look like the R32 type lights.

Or you can always go the DIY route like these examples:

DIY - Custom R32-Style Taillights - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com

The results are mixed! But some even remind me of Rhonda from the AAMI ads!

So "hot" that Ketut mightn't be able to resist and starts cleaning your twin pipes!

OEM finish sounds good. When you get yours done, would you mind showing us some pictures? What was the estimated cost for spray tinting anyway?

A friend of mine had his Audi TT tail lights done for £100 GBP by a professional paintshop, just to give you an idea. I plan on spending no more than that if possible but it's getting the right shade (not too dark) that's most important.

Nice, are these tinted or painted?

I've decided to go for the tint type (much like tinting your windows). Hopefully i can get the guys tinting my windows to do it for me in one go. I hear these are reversible (ie its easier to remove than the paint method a la Ketut method).

Anyone know if there are legal issues with doing this? Whether you can't stick anything on, or its just that you gotta have a certain amount of light coming through?
    Cheers, Abuthen.
