Agreed. Though its not just the front windows (having kids always helps find out the weirdest things)
It comes down to the shape of the car and how the air entering the car gets trapped and can't escape. It creates that buffeting which pulses on the ear drums. As suggested, just cracking down another window can resolve this (sometimes it has to be on the opposite side of the open window)
I dare say this will work as it changes the air flow/direction
