    Tiguan TDI103

    Hi there

My 2010 Tiguan clocks 110,000km already, I think it's time to get the timing belt and water pump although they said this job needs to be done at 120,000km. Get a quote from local mechanic, it is gonna cost me $850 for parts and labour. Does it sound right or should I shop around?

Also, engine check light turns on, get it scanned and got P261A error code. Been told the auxiliary electric pump needs to be replace, another $750 for parts and labour. Way expensive since the pump alone cost less than $100 on ebay.

Oh the reverse light (the little ones on the rear bumper) needs to replaced as well, a nice lady hit me from the back in the car park. This one I think I can diy but I do not know the part number to shop.

Appreciate any comments and inputs. Cheers

The water pump in my 2010 TDI failed earlier this year, so in addition to fixing the water pump we advanced the change of the timing belt well before the 120,000km service. That quoted price is in the ballpark based on my experience. My repair was done at a VW dealer.

Can't comment on the aux pump repair cost, yet to have that drama, but having done a timing belt and pump myself before, I'd GLADLY pay a grand to have someone do it, it's a pretty major undertaking, and timing the engine after replacement is a bit of a feat too. From what I understand the aux pump is a pretty easy swap out, just have to crimp off the hoses best you can, and prepare for coolant loss, and getting some back it to the otherwise sealed system.

    Just a quick update.

Spent $850 for timing belt kit and water pump by independent mechanic. If done by VW dealer then might cost axtra $200. As for the auxiliary electric pump, can't find Bosch locally so I got used but perfect one from the wrecker for $110. Spent $400 to get it replaced, checked and cleared the error.

Still looking for the reverse light.

The rear bumper needs to be removed to replace them (poor design!)
The manual states the reversing lights are long lasting ones. I've always been curious about magical long life bulb (in which case I'll get some for the rest of the lights i the car!)
These days I think I would replace with LEDs with some ballast resistor
