Tiguan Service Question
Hi,
I know this maybe a silly question so bare with me. My wife's Tiguan TDI is a 2011 model and received its 15000 service last November 2012. I have just received a notice for an overdue service. The fact I have been out west working and we had a work supplied vehicle the Tiguan was rarely used. In fact only 2500 klms have been added having only 17500 klms on the dial now.
I spoke with the dealer and they said the service is a 30000 klm or 12 mths service. To me seems a bit harsh having only done 2.500 klm I have to have it serviced, does the oil etc go off if not used? As for the pollen filter this was stressed MUST be changed, again seems a bit odd, I could understand if I had travelled 15000 not 2500 klms.
The quoted price was $535.00 and half a day to complete. Need to find a VW specialist near me as its a day lost getting the wife's car serviced. The amount of driving my wife does I will be doing more twelve mth servicing than KLM servicing going by what the dealer says.
Is it necessary to do the 12 month service if travelling so little Klms and what wears out or does the oil go off for a MUST do 12 month service.
Your advise on the above would be most welcomed.

Yes to keep warranty and a good idea to change oil/ air filter anyway. If it's like my wife most trips are short and this is worst for wear as engine is spending most of its life running cold.
Nearly all manufacturers that I know spec a km or time interval whichever occurs first. At least with VW the service interval is 12 months whereas my wife's Mazda is 6 months.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the wife does mostly short trips although these 2500 k are mostly 400 - 500 k runs mostly open runs from central Qld to Brisbane and returns.
