I can't open the site, have to do that from home!

But I actually decided to go with the carbonio and ordered one from ECS yesterday. Worked out to be pretty affordable since the stage2 intake parts are not really required to go stage2. Was around $350 delivered, just needs a bracket, which I will source from my local APR dealer...

Fair enough - the Carbonio seems pretty well designed, but never been much of a fan of those cone type air elements (too much risk of dust/contaminants getting in IMO). I am familiar with the Donaldson Power-Core product that is in the other system and know they are the best with regards to flow vs filtration efficiency - the results they reckon they get with regards to increase in power/torque are pretty impressive too! They are having a Dyno day next month and I'm hoping to get down there for it while on Holidays, so might check it out some more.....

Yeah, that worries a little bit too, but honestly so many people run them and I haven't heard of am engine failure so far due to an intake. Even the latest 997 RS 4.0 has a dual pod filter set-up from factory that isn't fully enclosed...

Mind you I am already planing on turning it back to stock for the wet season, just as a precaution....

I was able to load the page now and check the filter out, but I wouldn't think it would fit our Tigs....

^ for the 2.0L TSI in the Tigs, you have the following choices for intakes:

    - APR carbonio (as you have already discovered)
    - VW Racing
    - ITG Maxogen.

My brother has the APR on his Skoda Octavia (same engine as the Tigs) and it both looks and sounds good. I have a VW racing intake on my car and i can vouch that its beautifully made and sounds great. The ITG is made by VW Racing, and is rebranded ITG. Its identical to the VW Racing intake except its painted matte black instead of gloss black.

Yes, very true (about the cone filters being used in a lot of applications), and I'm sure they wouldn't sell them if there was any danger of harm to the engine, but as you know our conditions are somewhat harsher than most so better safe than sorry! Having cut my teeth with Donaldson (in Heavy Duty applications) I know they are more critical with their filtering efficiency.
I contacted Tarmac Engineering and they said they are working on one for the TSI motors as well.....
BTW, Simon from VAR Design (Viezu) has said that he is also working on an intake system (along similar lines to VWR/ITG one I believe) - hopefully it may be released soon with the other hardware. Hoping, praying

Yeah. I'm toying with the idea of not installing the carbonio now and keeping the intake stock.

I like the idea of the itg intake, but honestly $600 is a lot of money for an intake. Maybe downpipe+ tune is the better solution for us up here. There is a fair bit of sand, dust and other crap around. I wouldn't worry about it in a city like Melbourne or Sydney, but here....

Tbh I believe the stock intake could be improved by taking the initial bend out and replacing it with a straight through style pipe to the filter box. The room for that is there!

    Yeah,
bang for bucks I think the DP is definitley the better option. Biggest difference in having the air intake is probably in the extra intake noise you can hear. Having said that the figures the Tarmac Engineeing site quotes (8kw/38Nm increase) are at the upper end of what any of them will give I'd reckon. Plus they're locally designed (and manufactured?) without the premium price some of the other brand names seems to attract

Just bear in mind that those figures have only been "quoted". Even though the car was tested on a dyno, no dyno sheets were ever shown to prove this increase in power. Im somewhat skeptical.

Fair point. From my point of view the advantage over the others is more in the design/filter efficiency though - without getting too technical, the Donaldson gives the advantage of surface ("barrier") filtration, as well as the extra safety of depth filtration while not restricting the air flow as much as the conventional pleated paper ones. Always been a bit wary of the cotton type/oiled media filters, as you are relying on a very thin barrier or the oil to trap contaminants. All very well up to a point, but if not serviced regularly or damaged could equal buggered engine (eek)

    Hey guys

Certainly is the case - our new carbon CAI has had significant re-development before launching, thus the delays, but we wanted it to be the best, regardless of anything. This is not built to a price. It's more in line with the Gruppe M one than our original one which was more in keeping with the vwr one. It has two pick up points, wider mouth, awesome fit and finish - quality is top notch and it has our very own VARdesign oversize filter, cotton layered, 5 micron filtration, light oiled, and it's not cheap. In fact price point will be in the region of $799-$899 given the development/costs its had, however true to our word - we'll hammer pretty much any price for Viezu clients and will do general specials on launch too. We're looking at $499 ish if we can - ball park, for Viezu tune clients - (existing clients, or new packages).

They're in for DP / TBE / FMIC / CAI / Carbon Engine cover / big brake kit - test fits as we speak and another major push over the next two weeks.

Pre orders will finally be taken in around two weeks once we know final lead time and hopefully we'll have finalised the DP by then but I don't want to promise anything on the DP's especially until we're through the next two weeks...

    Any queries please email (simon@viezu.com.au)
