This depends on if they have to take out the ECU and do it on the bench or if they can leave it in the car (due to the ECU's firewall which I believe is now 64 bit). Unfortunately mine had to be taken out, however it didn't take too long I don't think, most of a morning.

Wonder if anybody has any experiences with K&N intakes? There's some on ebay.
I was looking at APR ones but they cost 200 AUD more than K&N. With shipping from America, it's 470ish for the APR. If i buy from Australian APR dealers it's around 570 I believe.
Just wondering about the alternatives out there in the market. I know there is Neuspeed but I can't seem to be able to find a shop that ships/sells them.

APR are more expensive as they are fully enclosed and have a "ram" effect whereby it pulls air from the highest flow/coldest temperature area.

I emailed APR and Superchips. Both companies said that I could run the Carbonio intake without any problems with my Superchips tune.
    My question is:
Would I get higher gains if I get a retune compared to just using stage 1 flash?

Some say the car is a ticking time bomb without a retune when you get a new intake because the A/F ratio goes nuts. But this shouldn't be the case with carbonio intake since it is in front of the MAF sensor.

Even though the Carbonio is the most expensive, it is by far the best, for these reasons:

    1. It takes the cold air from the most direct point and where pressure is at its highest. Bit of RAM effect there ..... Other intakes take the air from somewhere else where it is hot and not at a decent pressure.

    2. The Carbonio is made from real Carbonfibre. Least heat conductive of all the intakes on the market. Keep the air going in cooler than anybody else.

    3. The Carbonio is made from real Carbonfibre. Looks really good in the engine bay ....

    4. The highflow airfilter in the fully enclosed unit is in front of the MAF so no funny airflow readings .....

    5. Makes a nice sound (others do as well I suppose)

    6. Works with any tune.

Buy what you want, but guarantee you, whenever you compare your engine bay to anothers with a Carbonio, there will be more than a tinge of envy and buyers regret .....

Hi Cap. I have a MY11 (Jan build) 147TSI. Was going to get Simon at Viezu to do tune (he is up here so much handier - nearest APR dealer is Tsv, about 500km away), but he said they can't do direct-port tune either. I presume same 64-bit security. Do you (or anyone else) know whether APR have cracked the codes to do direct-port tune yet? If so, may take it to them instead. From reading yours (and others) posts, the Carbonio CAI is probably a worthwhile thing to do at the same time?!
    Cheers

Seems good in theory, and seems to give more "bang for your buck" to me. Am reluctant to change original intake system because gains seem small compared to cost - whereas this seems to be simple "plug-in" addition which feeds more air to engine constantly?!

OK Here's my question(s) for the day. I'm considering getting either APR or Superchips stage 1 done to my 125TSI DSG. The issue that I have is that I get a fuel card from work which only allows 95 octane max and not 98. The guys from APR and Superchips both said to use the highest octane possible (well they would as they're all rev heads and it gives best performance), however if I'm limited to 95 is it still worth it?

If I'm only running 95 octane am I voiding my warranty?? Well may as well get it chipped then hey

Also my understanding is that Superchips is just a single program - wiping the original stock mapping away, whereas APR gives you choice of 4 mappings including stock but at twice the price ($750 vs $1495). Do any of you guys that have the APR tune ever use the other 3 ECU mappings? Is there anything that I'm missing here?

One thing that I really want to get rid of is the standard car being slow/bogged off the line. Is there any other way of getting this done without a retune? Will 98 RON do this? I mean driving around in S mode all the time just drives me nuts!!!

Running 98 in stock tune won't make a scrap of noticable difference.

I don't know about Superchip, but have had APR. It will completly, utterly transform it into a very quick car - you won't believe it's the same engine. Yes, you do have to run 98 though with APR, don't know about Superchip. I never bothered changing mappings although once or twice I switched it back to stock just to remind myself how good it was. I did use the Valet mode a few times just to PO my brother when he wanted a drive

Is there anything you're missing? Yep- an APR remap (or Superchip)- go and do it tomorrow, you won't regret it. Who cares about paying for the fuel? use the fuel card for the lawnmower.

I don't know if anyone has managed to get around the firewall without removing the ECU, however all I can tell you is that it really is worth it - the 500k drive back home will be a blast. The guys at Canberra Volkswagen Centre know how to do it so I am sure they are happy to share the knowledge.

I don't know about the in-line system, I can imagine that it might throw airfilter/flow error messages on the dash? I would just go with the Carbonio personally, the APR is so rad that it will blow you away anyway

I have the APR tune with the 4 programs, i only switched it back to stock mode from the 98 once, to remind myself of the difference! Will also switch it back to stock for a visit to the dealers coming up...

Am planning a bit of a roadie at christmas time, off into some remote-ish places where 98 may not be available everywhere, so i'm considering running the 95 program for the duration of the trip, about 4000km's.

While i think of it, are there any claimed power/torque figures for APR's 95 program? Or economy gains?

    Cheers
