    Excellent to see some trap speeds which is what i have been hanging for.

    Sharkie - Don't get to caught up in the ET's. I would bet that all of the above cars had much higher trap speeds than the Tig and that shows true power. It's like when the APR Stage 3 GTI ran a woeful ET in Motor Mag Tuner shootout. People banged on about the ET and ignored the fact it trapped 110mph. The trap is the important part if you want power.

    So we are looking at:
    *92mph with stage 1
    *97mph with stage 1 + stage 2 intake + IC - no rear seat - no spare

    Trapping 97mph sounds bloody brilliant (maybe 96 with the rear seat & tyre in lol).

    I wonder whether the Stage 2 would be any quicker than what krracing did anyway? I'd be shocked if a stage 2 Tig could trap 100mph being 300kg heavier than the GTI.

    K04 kit on the Tig would be nice. I'd shove one on the Audi if it wasn't FWD

For example, though the Aurion has 200kw and can run low 14s stock, I wouldn't be comparing them to the SS/XR8 or XR6T mainly because it's a FWD.
    I don't see anything wrong with Sharkie's performance comparison, since he only pointed out what appears to be Wheels Oct 2010 comparison quarter mile times.
    All cars compared there were AWD.
    But I agree with you that the Tiguan is a small SUV and it is made for different purpose. But comparing dollar to performance, it is certainly the winner by the long shot in that category.

    And every Tiguan owner will get excited about that.

    The Tiguan does not appeal to everyone as a performance machine, but that doesn't change the thing.

    I personally don't see the Tig as a SUV, its too small boot-wise and the AWD setup is not what I want for even light off-road duties.

    For me it is a cheap AWD performance hatch ...... for what it costs and what you get for that price it is an amazing piece of kit...

    Yes, its not as focused as the "real" performance hatches (R, STI & Evo), but then it costs a lot less .....

    My Tig in its current state is better in all aspects compared to a GTI (even a stg 2 GTI) for the roads that I use it for. I have yet to find a Stg 2 GTI that I cannot keep up to .... and that includes twisty bits .... powering out of a low speed corner the Tig has to be held in to prevent it from running over the GTI as the Tigs ability to put the power down is far superior ...

    For my Tig, trap speeds and even the actual ET at the end of the quarter is slightly less important as most Tigs will never see a race track or even a drag strip ...... yes, cars with similar times will carry more speed at that point, because they weigh less and have more power .... what it does show VERY well, is how good the Tig is in launching off the line (in the right hands of course), and in the real world this translates into getting to 100km/h very quickly .... quicker than many of the "real" performance machines .... and considering that most Tig live in and around the city is the only real life performance that is needed.

    I have countless times embarrassed more "powerful" cars off the line .... 2WD cars with lots of power are quite difficult to launch well and the AWD cars typically need a bit of revs to get a quick launch ..... the EA888 GTI engine in the Tigs delivers real power down low and launch amazingly quickly ....

    On the drag strip I don't for 1 second believe I can run with a current gen V8 .... this is where you launch in a very special way .... however, on our oil-stained slippery roads I have no issues taking on a current gen V8 (or R or WRW/STI) as none of them can launch as quickly with as little fuss as the Tig (without drawing unwanted law enforcement attention) ..... ..... in order to keep up or be in front they have to launch a lot harder than what street use legally allows and by the time they realise that the Tig is gone in front ....

I dont see too many Tigs driving around without a rear seat, wouldn't be surprised if all those things cut off a good 100kg? In any event our excitement aside, its not quite a fair comparison, all the cars in the wheels mag had their spare wheels, seats etc!

    That aside removal of the spare wheel is easy and makes good sense anyway for boot space, we dont carry our spare around, just can of tyreweld and wont do anything but that except for longer or 4wd trips.

    The Tig is a biggish type of car so that much surface area trying to bust through the wind is going to be hard. Even when i had the chip i noticed that 100 thing dropped off considerably which i expected. The Ford Territory turbo has the same problem and the trap speeds are way down vs the sedans.

    I tend to go by trap speeds because it's the one measurement that is constant and i know the difference between speeds. I never look at dynos. A 92mph trap speed for a chipped Tig is quick. My last car stock ran 97mph. This difference of 5mph i can tell in 3rd gear upwards as the Tig slows significantly.

    If you can get the Tig to run 97mph (with all the bits in lol) you could expect your 80-120 times to be in the 3.5 second region. This makes for very quick overtaking.

    Personally i would be content with 101mph or thereabouts with the Tig as the power is decent enough for an SUV.

    krracing - Any plans to get the downpipe + stage 2 software then do another run?

    Would any Tiguan owners be interested in a K04 style kit if we can get good HP out of it & get it to market well under the stage 3 price? (trying to make a business case for development of a kit & the software calibration required).

    I can start a separate thread if required!

    Just so you guys all know, I've sacrificed my car for the good of all, to be the prototype K04 test mule for APR ..... .....

    Depending on price obviously .... if the K04 comes in too expensive then it may end up being the APR Stg 3 test mule ....

    I'd be interested to know what is required for the K04 upgrade and the cost before i commit but i am interested.
