Not sure about the climate questions, but the intermittent wiper speed is dependant on the amount of rain falling on the rain sensor.
Your Tig isn't a dud! Just quirky...
Hi all, we recently picked up a new (though 2012 plated) Tiguan Pacific 132TSI and I have a few questions:
- Is it possible to completely shut the airflow system so that there is no air coming through the vents? If I have the climate control completely off, air flows through the vents. I can manually flick all the vents shut but air still seeps through. Similarly when the climate control is on, there is no way of not having any air flow, the minimum is fan setting 1.
- Related to my point above, when we have the climate control off, we can still feel whatever temperature it was at previously e.g. we had climate control on at 24 degrees. We then turned climate control off but we can still feel the temperature at 24 degrees until we re-turn on the climate control, move the temperature down to a make comfortable temperature, and then turn climate control off again. Is this normal?
- When I put the car into drive (auto) and have the headlights on, the right fog light (only) also turns on while the left one stays off. I'm not sure whether this turns off once i reach a subsequent speed? Is this normal?
- When moving the wiper switch up 1 to intermittent and then adjusting the speed of the wipers with the speed setting at the top of the switch thing, the timing is random of the wipes whether on the slowest or fastest setting. Surely this is not normal?
Have I just got a dud Tiguan that needs to go back to the garage for electricals to look at or are these just normal things on the Tiguan?

Do you have the comfort pack with auto lights/wipers?
I haven't really noticed that. I'm guessing that you have the climate control system with the "Pacific" model. You can switch the climate control off or recirculate the air (if you don't want the air coming in from outside).
Are you sure these haven't been set up as parking lights?
You'll have auto-rain sensing wipers with the comfort pack and the intermittent will adjust depending on how much rain the sensors detect.
I'd be surprised if the settings that your car has aren't all "factory". Suggest getting out your manual and having a good read of it as there is actually quite a lot of useful information in there (and a few "nice" quirks).

1: Put the system onto recirculate and that will stop any outside air coming in
2: Fog lights come on on the side you turn up to about 20kph, it's a feature
3: You've got auto headlights and wipers
4: Go back to the dealer and get the salesman to actually tell you how your Tiguan works OR read the instructions.

....and allows for a healthier air, otherwise the moisture stays in the air/con box and it gets smelly quite fast.
To further help the issue, I always open the outside air when i'm 2-3 minutes from my destination.
...as many said, OP, please read the owner's manual and get familiar with the features of the car, so you don't miss on some great features that were put in the Tiguans.
