I have a 2011 Tiguan 147, (not Xenon lights), i find the high beam especially poor, i have had alignment checked and that's all good. I do a fair amount of country road driving with lots of roo's about and it gets scary at times when you can't see what's up front !
Has anyone upgraded the lights on a tiguan, not keen on un sightly driving lights.
Can fog lights be changed for driving lights ?
Osrams 65w rallye fitted to 4 headlights, notably better but not as good by a long margin as say a pair of Super Oscars driving lenses. I haven't owned modern driving lights to reference.
Still not really good enough for country road night travel...still itching to fit a bar and some proper lighting but I can't justify for the amount of night driving...ask me again after I've hit something if that was a reasonable justification...
Not on a Tiguan but just upgraded on a Passat to Philips +100 Halogen lights. They double the distance easily (+100%) and are about 20% whiter than standard at about 3600K. Mistake a lot of people make is to put "blue" globes in. These give a really white light (between 4600 and 500K) but have much lower distance. As the lighting guy said to me "do you want to see or be seen).
And I am only running standard wattage and getting double distance. There are higher wattage available which are still legal. The trouble with off road lights is just that...they are legal for off road use only. A cop having a bad day can easily slap an unroadworthy on the vehicle and fine in your hand.
There are HID replacement kits (Philips make one). They are expensive and the lighting guy advised there are significant difficulties with VW wiring for these after market units. Basically the wiring melts. There are posts talking about LED replacements. LEDs draw far less current and are extremely bright. They do have a large heat sink at the rear so rear clearance [lack of] can be the killer for these.
