Adam, 2 things you have to watch using Golf based coilovers in a Tig.

1: Spring rate is way, way different. essentially you need springs that cater for an extra 300kg's split between front & rear, and then of course, that spring rate will be way outside the damping characteristics the shocks will be set for (unable to control the spring rate). The other is rear shock / spring length when lowering down.

2: There is in effect a 40 mm "chassis rail" that runs under the Tiguan front to rear, when you lower, your rear driveshafts come close to this & can rub.

Guy, James and Mark have been really helpful, I've been going back and gave them enough trouble..haha...they have been great!

Anyway, I don't have a pic yet, but I think you should be able to find it on Harding performance Facebook? James took a picture...if it's still there. I'm now running stock wheels Helix, 18x8 235/50/18 et48. Am thinking to get some spacers though....

i have noticed guys in the us are doing the chassis notch out but I presumed this was only necessary when slamming the car on airbag suspension.

Are you on a custom spring setup to allow for the extra weight?

Hi Adam,

We have run several different spring combo's on our car, but mind you, it pretty unique. One of the early sets sagged and then we had some rubbing under severe cornering. We don't get it now.

I would imagine rubbing if you are lower than ours would be a big problem & yes, a "chassis notch" or similar modification would be required if slamming it!

By earlier sets are you referring to the 90mm drop you achieved in the thread I posted above? and after how long did it sag?
I’m looking for around 70-80mm drop, do you for see rubbing?

I noticed you did some comparisons between the golf/tig struts... even though the fronts looks pretty close in size, I think this is where we are likely to get issues... and I guess this was where you were rubbing?

Having said that.... I guess you can’t remember what the springs where (KG) that caused rubbing. Or do you know what KG springs you have now?

Depends, as ours is a true coil over the shock setup (with linear springs), it can not be compared to anything else sorry.

Just take it from me, if you use regular "golf" setup, It will be way wrong. Never tried it personally and wouldn't as its not designed for a Tiguan.
