When caravanning years back we used these folk in Canberra Jayco Caravan Canberra but that's a useful as an ashtray on a motorbike when in Perth.
Suggest when negotiating with your tower fitter you ask him to show you exactly what looming/wiring has to be fitted beyond just words as if I am not mistaken most of the VAG vehicles are pre-wired including controllers.

My 2014 Tig did not come with controller. Pre wired only means loom from fusebox (needs connecting) to left rear cargo bay where trailer wiring control module and last part of trailer wiring loom need fitting. The module then needs coding to switch on esp to include trailer and reversing sensors off when connected to trailer wiring.

The same goes for Skoda except their prewiring is already connected at the fusebox. Can provide part numbers if required.

I would think the disclaimer is there because the brake controller is a totally independent system. It does not actually connect on through to the the computer etc but just triggers from the brake line and the brake controller wire that is pre wired in the towbar kit. So maybe VW just want to ensure people realise it is nothing to do with them. They are very simple systems so I cannot see what the issue woud be as you need them to tow to the Tig's capabity

mike64 if the parts work for a 2010 Tiguan, then I would appreciate a list of part numbers. Cheers.

You'll need to have VW confirm suitability of part 5n2 055 204 for 2010 model but this is what my dealership ordered me for my 2014 Tiguan. I used the pre-wired cable instead of laying the 11 core cable to the fusebox.
