Tiguan engine rattling noise and weird noise when driving on wet roads

    Hello Everyone,

I have a 2012 Tiguan (MY13) TSI, bought it 6 months ago and have done 5000 kms.
There are two issues at the moment and they both have something to do with the noises.

The first one is the infamous rattling/hissing sound when engine speed is between 2000 to 3000 (especially between 2500rpm to 2700rpm). I have taken my car to the dealer and they said it's normal and all TSI cars have the noise. I showed them the part that needs to be installed from this post but they said my car is new and has already have it installed. My car engine code is CCZD, does anyone know if my Tiguan really has it already installed? If so, why does the engine still makes the noise?

The second problem is that there are some weird "woo woo" sound when driving on wet roads or raining or after a car wash. It sounds like low-patch whistling sound or like wind is blowing a tube sound. It doesn't seem to happen when the speed is below 50km/h, I can hear it when speed is 50km/h to 70km/h. It's loud if I turn the music on I can still hear it. It doesn't always happen and is kinda hard to reproduce. It started when the car has done 3000 kms and become more often recently. Any ideas?

    Many thanks in advance!

Do TSBs apply to each country specifically? I'm in New Zealand do you know if there is one for New Zealand? Thank you.

The woo-woo noise has been "discovered" after much searching (look for the thread on a "wine glass noise" in myTiguan.com) and turns out to be the holes in the roof rails (a noise like blowing over the neck of a bottle). It can be cured by taping over the holes or getting the specific rubber grommets that fit the holes.

    Cheers

I'm not convinced it has the clip fitted. The dealer didn't bother to check my car and told me that is already fitted... I think NZ is considered as a "sub-market" of Australia so if Aussie Tiguans aren't fitted with the clip from factory I don't think NZ cars have got it.

Thank you very much. This might be it! I will try taping over the holes and report back. Do you know where I can get the rubbers in NZ?

Had the same rattling noise and had the same responses. Hassle them until they replace the clip.

We are certainly NOT considered to part of the Ausi market, we get totally different models and set of specs to the Ausi Tigs !!

No I've got no idea. If you go onto the myTiguan.com site you'll find where they got them in Europe. I NEVER heard it on my first 2008 Tiguan but heard it the very first day I drove my 2013, but haven't heard it since. My suggestion would be if it is annoying in yours try tapping over the holes and see if that fixes it, if it does you could then have a chase around for some grommets.

    Cheers
