    Tiguan country

Just got back from a flying run to Sydney. over 2000k's since Friday.

Came back Bucketts Way and Thunderbolts back to Uralla which I've done on the bikes before, but have never bothered in a car. Lets just say it was well worth the bit of rough stuff just after Gloucester. Of course on the way down to Sydney we did the Old Pacific Highway from the Hawksbury. The Tig just eats up this stuff.
Anyway, couple of pics to get the feel:

    at the top...

    loving it...

Had three adults (my bro and dad) + luggage and stuff. Car was fantastic. My bro couldn't believe the hill climbing and acceleration. Even with the load (another 300 + kg's all up), it didn't make a lot of difference. It still pulled like it had another 4 cylinders, as my bro was quick to demonstrate - over and over again! Needless to say he is now intent on getting one.

Fuel consumption on the way back came in at 8.6 (unlike having another 4 cylinders) which, when considering that drive, was exceptional IMO. I was expecting closer to 10 given the conditions and other contributing factors along the trip .

As you guys probably know already, I seriously doubt there's another car available (under 100k anyway) that is as versatile, but at the same time, so incredibly capable with everything that you throw at it. It's a bit of a conundrum really - the ultimate compromise, but there are no compromises.

    It's a 190, sorry but a TDI wouldn't come close.

I think you'd be shocked at how CLOSE the TDi would come, particularly in the hill-climbing, load carrying departments, plus you'd be using less fuel.

A '190' is a 125 with a chip that improves performance etc right?

Not being silly I hope but if that is all it takes to increase performance why wouldn't VW have done something similar from the beginning?

No offence but that question has been asked about 1 million times lol Have a look in the early part of the "Tiguan Tuning Starts!" thread for answers/opinions.

Looks like a sweet road for a thrash John. I just came back from the Central Coast of NSW (Toowoon Bay) and did about 1200kms. Car was totally faultless and as you say, pulls like a steam train. I got around the same fuel consumption with some lusty driving at some points, I was totally impressed also

P.S. I really enjoyed the totally pointless 80km/h so called "Roadworks" stretch just north of the Hawkesbury, not!

Mod note: Guys, please don't turn this into another TDI vs TSI argument. It's really not that difficult to shrug comments off without "defending" them.

Response to OP: Great routes to take. I really enjoyed doing Thunderbolts Way when my Tig was still very fresh and you're right, it absolutely eats that sort of route up. Were you not impressed at how little body roll (compared to what I would have expected from a high centre of gravity vehicle) there was in the twisties?

    Nice pics BTW

that reminds me of a saying my Citroen mechanic (yes I have owned a couple) used to say:

"there's no such thing as a bad road, just cars with badly designed suspension"

I never quite agreed with him, even owning a Citroen, but I did get his point

No worries. It wasn't meant as a bait.
