I haven’t heard of this type of issue before. Maybe it’s adaptation. Do you left foot brake?

Hello,
Hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on an issue I'm having.
I have a 2012 Tiguan 155 TSI 7 Speed DSG ..
Its been running fine, no issues .. then about a month ago one morning it started to have issues.
Namely it has issues automatically shifting gears. If its in D it will stay in 1st gear .. when it first appeared it was
like this for 2 days straight. DSG works fine, as does Sport.. but D has issues.
Occasionally, the car was also loosing power. for example if we were stopped at traffic lights, when I went to accelerate it was like it had run out of petrol, except the engine was still running.. pedal down, just no power at all.
This issue however was intermittent.
I called local VW and they didn't have an appointment until 5 weeks times. As it was just before Christmas, we just left it and didn't drive it..
After the holiday, I booked it in at another local VW tuning place, but after not driving it for almost 2 weeks, the issue had miraculously disappeared and the mechanics said they could not replicate the issue, even after extensive testing.. and the onboard computer had no record of errors or faults. They did a DSG service for good measure and we picked it up.
2 weeks pass no issues, then it starts again.
I take it back that day to place that did service, yet still no errors in the computer nor are they able to replicate.
They were suggesting it was a clutch issue and it would need to be replaced (i.e. $2600+), however, after having it a week they were unable to say for certain that is the issue and could not guarantee the work would solve the issue .. without a guarantee we were not keen on dropping $2600 on a new clutch if they weren't sure.
I have been searching online it doesn't seem to be a common thing, the weirdest part is that there is clearly an issue, yet the computer isn't logging any problems..
Anyway, picked it up again yesterday.. its been fine since. but clearly there is an issue somewhere..
help me obi wan..

Intermittent speed sensor fault at the wheel maybe.
Could explain why it doesn't go up the gears in D.
Would have thought that it woud have logged a fault code though.
Yooj
If it’s D mode specific I’d be looking at software rather than a hardware fault.

Yeah my gut instinct is it’s software than hardware, especially as it seems to run perfectly fine otherwise.. but how do fix that if there is no logged errors?
Spoke with local Vw Service center and they started talking about replacing gearbox etc.. with a bill over $6000
Sounds excessive , especially given it’s done like 65k km and is driven mostly pretty conservatively
