Hi all! Just got a call from the VW dealer who let me know my Tiguan has arrived. A few questions:
1) What should I be looking for when I pick the vehicle up? I have never bought a new car before so it's new to me, but is there anything, possibly VW-specific, that I should be looking for? - Thanks, addressed by Transporter (Sticky Topic)
2) When I negotiated the deal in March 2011, I was clear that I was happy to wait for the facelift model, understanding this would go into production around June and possibly not arrive until November. After some hesitation at trying get us into a Tiguan already on its way to Australia at the time, the salesperson, realising we didn't want to compromise on certain things, told me that VW had stopped taking orders for the existing models, so ordering the new model wouldn't be a problem.
So yesterday, when I got the call that the Tiguan was ready, I was of course a little confused. I inquired about this on the phone. This person, a manager, who was not the person I dealt with in March, said there's no way they would have taken an order for the facelift model, classed as an MY12, and they aren't due till next year. He tried reassuring me by saying the car we will receive is an MY11 and not an MY10. So I checked my copy of the signed contract. Next to Make and Model it says VOLKSWAGON Tiguan 147TSI 7 Speed Automatic, and next to Model Code: 5N12L9 (which means nothing to me.) It goes on to list Options & Accessories, Price & Terms of Settlement, etc, but at the end under Special Conditions it says, "Vehicle is to be MY11 NEW Tiguan model. RRP is subject to change as per 1.2 in the terms and conditions of the contract." The dealer in March explained this in that should VW change the base price or specifications of the 147TSI, we would be allowed to re-visit the contract. Oh, and under Estimated Delivery it says: 30 November 2011.
Lastly, and I will confirm this when I speak to the dealership tomorrow, but the salesman who sold us the car in March no longer works there. Great
I guess my questions after all this are: what do you think we should do? We are happy to wait until November for a car, though having one right now is nice too. I don't know if legally I have a leg to stand on if the new model is in fact MY12 and our contract does not reflect that. Is it worth fighting to wait for the new car if I can? Is the dealer being a sleazeball, did they screw our order and now want us to just take the car they got, or did they never intend to sell us the facelift model from the start?
Thanks, your comments are greatly appreciated from a soon-to-be-first VW owner.
