I don't think that there are any changes to MY12 model. As for what you should check when picking up your Tig there is teh sticky thread with some info.
Hi all! Just got a call from the VW dealer who let me know my Tiguan has arrived. A few questions:
1) What should I be looking for when I pick the vehicle up? I have never bought a new car before so it's new to me, but is there anything, possibly VW-specific, that I should be looking for? - Thanks, addressed by Transporter (Sticky Topic)
2) When I negotiated the deal in March 2011, I was clear that I was happy to wait for the facelift model, understanding this would go into production around June and possibly not arrive until November. After some hesitation at trying get us into a Tiguan already on its way to Australia at the time, the salesperson, realising we didn't want to compromise on certain things, told me that VW had stopped taking orders for the existing models, so ordering the new model wouldn't be a problem.
So yesterday, when I got the call that the Tiguan was ready, I was of course a little confused . I inquired about this on the phone. This person, a manager, who was not the person I dealt with in March, said there's no way they would have taken an order for the facelift model, classed as an MY12, and they aren't due till next year. He tried reassuring me by saying the car we will receive is an MY11 and not an MY10. So I checked my copy of the signed contract. Next to Make and Model it says VOLKSWAGON Tiguan 147TSI 7 Speed Automatic, and next to Model Code: 5N12L9 (which means nothing to me.) It goes on to list Options & Accessories, Price & Terms of Settlement, etc, but at the end under Special Conditions it says, "Vehicle is to be MY11 NEW Tiguan model. RRP is subject to change as per 1.2 in the terms and conditions of the contract." The dealer in March explained this in that should VW change the base price or specifications of the 147TSI, we would be allowed to re-visit the contract. Oh, and under Estimated Delivery it says: 30 November 2011.
Lastly, and I will confirm this when I speak to the dealership tomorrow, but the salesman who sold us the car in March no longer works there. Great
I guess my questions after all this are: what do you think we should do? We are happy to wait until November for a car, though having one right now is nice too. I don't know if legally I have a leg to stand on if the new model is in fact MY12 and our contract does not reflect that. Is it worth fighting to wait for the new car if I can? Is the dealer being a sleazeball, did they screw our order and now want us to just take the car they got, or did they never intend to sell us the facelift model from the start?
Thanks, your comments are greatly appreciated from a soon-to-be-first VW owner.

Sorry yep I found that thanks.
Anyone have any suggestions on what to ask the dealer regarding the facelift model
I guess my only thoughts are that until you pay the remaining money, you are in control.
So the decision should remain up to you.
If re-sale is an issue (ie if you are only going to keep it for three or less years, then the facelift would be a better option.
If not, and you are going to keep it for longer, then there is nothing wrong with the 'current' model.
My point to use if you are going to argue it is "estimated delivery date...november 2011". That shows that the car that has arrived now, is not the one you were waiting for....
2018 Ralyee Green RS wagon. Fully optioned.
Previous vehicles:2015 Volvo V60 Polestar (my one detour from VW/Skoda!)
2013 Platin grey RS wagon / 2012 White Polo GTI / 2009 Black 125 Tiguan
"Vehicle is to be MY11 NEW Tiguan model"
IF it was to be the new facelift model and it was delivered after Sept this year it would be a 2011 MY12, next year would be 2012 MY12 up to end of Aug.
You could say that you were mislead and therefore contract is void. As Tigger says you are in Control.
All the best.

Interesting predicament! I'd suggest that the fact that the contract says its MY11 means the car you've got is correct although the delivery date confuses things and probably gives you ground to dispute the contract.
My understanding was that the MY11 was updated earlier this year with some changes *which might be what was meant) but the new 'face lifted model' is MY12, due end of November 2011.
I've just ordered a MY12 vehicle. On the contract it lists: Delivery - 30 Nov 2011, Make - 5N10K9/11 (the 11 in this code concerns me!); with comments - "This order is for a new Face Lifted Tiguan". I hope this is watertight although the fact that they can renogotiate the price is a bit worrying.
If not too late ... then I'd suggest it stipulates MY12!
Cause they can say and show you whatever they want, as to what 5N10K9/11 means!
But if it's any consolation it's not the same code as what Bertie had (being 5N12L9).
Maybe do a quick search overseas on the model code that you've been given!
But then again, those codes maybe different or unique to Australia.
Anyhow good luck!
FWIW, if it was me ... I would not order anything, without first seeing the details on the menu!
Cause at the moment, what's written as the specs and options of your Tig on order?

MY11 Tiguan 147TSI (SOLD)
if you stipulate MY 12 you may find the first deliveries do not occur until December '11 or January '12, worth the wait ?
