Tiguan 132 TSi Engine Oil Low

    Hi all,

    Just seeking some advice.

I have a Tiguan 132 and today the yellow engine oil low light lit up when I start the car.
I checked the engine oil and it is low.

My question is, should I get VW to service it? (I was only serviced a few months ago and next service due in approx. 8 months)

Or can I just top it up? (I would prefer this option as it seems less of a hassle). I checked the owners manual and it states we should use VW approved engine oils but doesn't specify what they are. Does anyone know what engine oils I can use if I can top it up?

    Really would appreciate any assistance.

    Thanks.

How old is your car? Has it been using oil before?

I'd suggest contacting the dealer and either getting them to top it up (you can suggest that they may have not put enough oil in) and/or purchase some VW approved oils.

I haven't had this issue with my car.

If you haven't been using oil before I'd be checking that the sump plug is in tight and isn't leaking.

This is a VW / Audi approved oil readily available at any Supercheapauto, vw504.00 stuff.

Personally I'd be back to the dealers like a shot, there's no way it should be low enough to trigger a warning a few months after a service !!

I was warned my diesels could use a little oil but in close to 6 years driving (over 2 Tiguans) now I've never had the oil light come on once and repeated checks have shown no need for topping up at all. Mind you I'm a reasonably low milage person but I don't expect a new car to use much if any oil at all. Personally I'd be concerned if any vehicle of mine required more than one top up between oil changes.

    Cheers

Its not time that matters its how many K's you do in that year.

Some do 30,000 or more and would possibly need a top up. Mine does about 6000 and doesn't need any.

Take it back to the dealership.

Have them inspect it for leaks, and if it is infact burning oil, have them perform an oil consumption test on it.

Hi, I have the same issue, I just topped up my oil today for the second time since November 2012 when my Tiguan 125 TSI (51,000km) had a service. My car is booked for the next service on Monday next week and I will be telling them as I drove many cars over the past 20 years and none of them needed top up in between services..
And we don't drive more than 1000km a month.

Interestingly, the person we bought the car from mentioned the increased oil consumption, but she said that it was checked with VW and they didn't find any unusual. Of course.

BTW I was always checking under the car if I can see any signs of oil leak but never seen anything.

At least now I can see I am not alone with my problem.

It means nothing that you topped up twice. How much of oil did you top up in total?
