Well, whether it's by fault or design, it has become quite apparent that VW/Audi ownership may or may not entail oil consumption rates higher than what many motorists are used to.
Volkswagen states the engine may use up to 0.5 l per 1 000 km (though some would argue that's a bit of a cop-out, just so they can avoid excessive numbers of warranty claims).
Oil consumption rates higher than that (after the break-in period) may warrant a visit to the dealer, though I'm not sure how accommodating head office would be in regards to goodwill repairs if the vehicle warranty has expired.
At least the dealers provide free top-ups.
In any case, I'm afraid it's just another hassle that many (but not all) VW/Audi owners just have to put up with - whether it's worth the hassle is up to the individual.
