Airbag light stuck on...help to reset please?

    Hi all,

My battery died...(three days before the warranty period ended luckily...)

It was replaced free of charge by NRMA on behalf of VW assist. After the new one was fitted, quite a few dash warning lights came on, including ABS, Traction, Airbag etc...

All went away, except the Airbag light. The MFD now shows 'airbag fault' each time the car is started now.

Any ideas what it could be or how to resolve it?

    Thanks

visit a stealer or member with vcds to clear the fault code, assuming nothing is wrong with airbag.

It always comes on when the battery voltage drops to certain level or when disconnected. I don't thing it will go away on its own, you need a scan tool to reset it.

    ok, thanks guys!
I went to the local stealer and they said that they couldnt get to it for a while....

is there any danger of it going off or not working in the event of an accident??

No, if it's low voltage trigered fault, which yours most likely is. The airbag still pops out in the case of accident.
You could get the ELM and the app from the android market, that should reset the light. I know it's the toy and will miss many faults in the car but worth the shot.

or drive to Camden GTI, maybe they can fit you in sooner.

I had the airbag light come on in our Jetta. Stealer wanted $264 to check it out. Bought a scan tool, reset it and it has never returned...

I went to Matt at Camden GTI, and yes, he did it straight away!
    Great service...
Best $55 spent to fix it.
Getting the dealers to do it would have been so time wasting.....
