Here's a couple of photos from the last night:
Wife saw a car with side steps on it the other day (not a Tiguan) and now wants these on her car

We just got rid of a Captiva with sidesteps. The most useless items in the world for a normal height SUV. They are too low to use as a step so they actually force you to step further away from the vehicle (harder entry / exit). If they are dirty then they rub against your clothes.
The Captiva was so badly designed that even with front mud-spats the side steps got covered in mud if the vehicle was used on dirt roads. I ended up adding a side extension to the mudflaps to keep the mud from piling up on the side steps

I used to think I was anal-retentive until I started getting involved in car forums
Yes and the genuine VW side steps need you to use a different jack as the standard jack won't work when you install side steps...
I'm not really a fan. I can understand on something like a Landcruiser they may be a handy addition for the vertically challenged, however for a small SUV it's just trying to look like a "big" car.
Again it's all for the looks but it's a quite an expensive cosmetic mod and yes Sharkie you could get a tune for that price!!!

May be lower the car a bit then she would not ask for side steps and you get your looks. With those arch extensions it will looks really nice.

Have to say I love the sidesteps on the Amarok. They are just at the right hight to actually function as a step plus they are the 1st thing a car door next to me will touch ....
Ebay (and the forums) are your friends here .... I got OEM steps (RRP$900) for $200 on an Amarok forum and fitted them myself ......
So, keep an eye out for a Tig with steps and stop to have a close look. They are not for everybody as Brad says.

Pretty but an ergonomic disaster which groups functions in a manner that makes it almost impossible to select and operate them without taking eyes off the road for protracted periods.
Dingah
Sounds just perfect for my wife! She always likes the things that are pretty but totally impractical.
But I do see what you mean when you look closer at the wheel there's a lot going on and the Mk6/current Tiguan set-up looks a lot more user friendly even though it may have less features.
I'll post up some pictures once its installed. Part of the reason I wanted it is that when I drive the car I keep on reaching for the paddle shifters and manual mode is terrible if you have to take your hands of the wheel and bump the gear selector.
Anyway I'm told it's plug and play so I'm about to find out! Now off to hunt down a 12mm triple square bit to take the steering wheel off. I sold the last one I had with the old wheel as I figured I wouldn't need it anymore...
