That's a very generous offer, however as it will be my wife driving it 95% of the time it's really what she wants. I suspect for her paddle shifters are something that will get in the way and cause unexpected gear changes when she doesn't want it more than a benefit.

If you want to sell them I'd post up on the parts for sale area. I'm sure you'd find a buyer at that price.

How does it feel to be behind the wheel of a Gen II Tig Damien. Much difference to the Gen 1 in terms of how it feels to drive?

I can tell you right now this one is going to be nowhere near as long or extensive in terms of mods. If you're waiting for some mega build I'm sorry to say that you're about to be disappointed

Power-wise the 155 has plenty enough poke for my wife on the school run so I don't think it'll even get tuned. Plus the intention is to keep this Tig longer term so I certainly want to be a bit kinder to it and not run it anywhere near as hard. Fun factor aside, tuning does tend to shorten the life of the engine/drivetrain and cause additional wear and tear.

I've asked my wife what she wants to done to the car as it's going to be her daily. About the most I'll drive it is swapping cars around in the driveway and the annual trip to get serviced so it's really her car. Last car she had we changed valve caps, exhaust tip and she put a sticker on the back. She's seen what I did to the other car and drove it quite a bit so I've left it up to her what she wants. Also I don't have a big budget for it as it's already quite a step up for us in terms of a second car.

Gen I and II Tigs are almost identical mechanically. I'm trying to think back to when I first got the gen 1 but that's almost 4 years ago now. Interior-wise there are only minor differences. It's mostly just exterior bumpers/lights/grille and a few engine tweaks. Though the new 130TDI is a complete game changer compared to the old 103TDI... if you're into diesels.

However if you were to ask me to compare my "old" stage 2+ gen 1 Tig with all its suspension mods to the "new" gen 2 155TSI which is effectively standard, then it's poles apart. The ride/handling is totally different - the "old" Tig with its springs and sway bars is firm and virtually no body roll compared to the "new" Tig which is plush and a fair bit of back/front and side/side body movement. The ALK in the "old" Tig makes the steering a lot heavier which is light and doesn't require much effort in the "new" Tig.

Power delivery I actually like the stock tune 155TSI more than the stage 2 for "normal" city driving. It's nice and linear/smooth and reality is for 99% of the time this is what you want. Though for going for a run through the hills or to win the traffic lights GP the "old" stage 2 is what you want... plus that exhaust noise and the DSG farts

The sports cloth seats in the "new" 155TSI are a step up and one of the most comfortable that either my wife or I have sat in. Kids haven't found the tray tables yet but as soon as they do I'm sure they'll get a work out

If someone was tossing up whether to buy a second-hand gen1 or gen2 I don't think there's a lot in it to be honest. It would come down to price/mileage and options. Obviously the newer shape looks a little less dated now but I'd still buy a good gen 1 over an average gen2 for the same $.

Steady on. I'm thinking that after an interior LED upgrade and a set of door warning lights any spare $ will go into the Subie supercharger fund

Thanks Ramee. Haven't heard from you for a while so nice to see you're still around. Is the K04 Tiggy still going strong?

Re the DSG I'm not sure what changes there have been from gen1 to gen2 but it still has the same issue in "D" of not dropping back into 1st gear after you've moved off/changed into 2nd. I really haven't driven it much (like under 5km) so hard to tell really. Plus the last couple of years I was running with a DSG tune anyway so it's a little hard to compare.I did go to grab the flappy paddles to flick it back to 1st gear... then remembered that this car didn't have flappy paddles

Though it was nice to jump back into a DSG car from a CVT and have actual gear changes rather than a wind up spring. Don't get me wrong the Subie's CVT is a pretty good one (a number of write-ups saying the same thing), however it still does sit at certain RPM when accelerating. The 2.5 NA Subie's just a little underpowered - but I knew that when I bought it (hence looking at supercharger upgrades....). The 155 would easily beat it off the line and to 100km/hr by a good couple of seconds.

Thanks Damien, Yes Tig is still going nice and strong I haven't done anything extra for it because I think I am bit bored modding it any more Hopefully in another year or two I will move to another car so may be will start another project then.

I asked about the DSG because I thought probably Gen 2 could have loaded with different software to Gen1 because we Gen 2 owners did not have much of a issue with the DSG like Gen 1 had. Anyway I am quite happy with the Tig and many people / friends commented on the Tig and exhaust note and some have even asked for joy rides in it too haha. And I still secure first place in fastest 0 to 100 time list in our company

I thought you were joking about the supercharger but for real I would not bother with it. It would be very costly and difficult exercise to properly supercharge a NA car and still would not come close to (performance vise or economy vise) a properly turbocharge factory built engine.

Remember that the DSG only got brought out in the Tiguan in MY11 cars. MY09 and MY10 has the sports automatic along with the MY12.5 when there was a "global shortage" of DQ500 gearboxes I suspect the factory may have had a few too many sports automatic gearboxes sitting around so they flogged them off to Aussie Tiguan owners

Anyway there's only 1 year of DSG in the Gen1 before the updated shape Gen2 (MY12) came out. Though not sure what (if any) changes to the DSG software have been made over time.

Edit: I have now been able to confirm that the MY13 DSG will revert to 1st gear in "D" when slowing to a crawl (i.e. doesn't get stuck in second gear when trying to accelerate away).

Yeah you're not the only one who has said that. I'll keep an open mind on it but suspect there's a few projects around the home that are a little more pressing than supercharging the work/family car.
