It's a little upsetting that 100000km's is considered high mileage (kilometreage?) these days...

To be honest I haven't tried out the back seat space in an Amarok. Just going by other dual cab set ups where there is minimal legroom. Also not sure how the wife would feel driving it as the new "family" car either.

Though there are times when having a ute would definitely be useful.

    Fun car > better judgement.

You know I've been through this process - albeit I accepted the space limitations of the CUV category - and there is nothing out there unless your budget stretches a long way further. I actually found the Tig has decent rear room, just poor boot space which didn't cut it for my particular needs but ultimately Mrs Tigger73 might just have to accept a hearse as the best compromise.

The back seat space is fantastic in Amarok, the cabin space and comfort is similar to Touareg2, which could also be an ideal car for carting your kids around. Plenty of Touaregs2 for sale at very good price, they're surprisingly reliable as a secondhand car. Not that expensive to service either.

It's not necessarily the kms but risk of requiring major repairs and having the car off the road for an extended time that motivates the change. As it's a work car they stipulate 5 years/140,000km as changeover point.

It all comes down to depreciation vs cost of maintaining an older modern car and where the two cross over is the exit point. Just working out when to push the button is the hard thing as repair costs are unpredictable.

^ What Miro said. The back seat space in an Amarok is better than that of a Tiguan by far. I have 3 teens and for the 1st time in a while no complaints with either seat width or leg space! Plus the enormous "boot" is a huge bonus.

Stg 2 TDI Amaroks making in excess of 180kw and Stg 1 TSI Amaroks even more than that .....

Weights (in the Dual Cabs) range from 1700kg to 1950kg so fairly light by ute standards ..... and with a tune really quick.

An R36 wagon would be nice but not going to happen on 2 fronts - too old and too high fuel consumption. But a V6 high line wagon may just sneak through...

And just like you Dutchy it may just be that I'm bored with my current car and looking to change it for something new. That has crossed my mind too as I've kind run out of mods to do and looking for a new "project".

Stretch to a new V6 Passat Wagon. What a fantastic base to work from to make a hot performance tourer. A couple of years of adding subtle performance and aesthetic mods, and you'd end up with a luxurious, rapid and sexy beast. Yes please.

Looks like the AllTrack might be just the car for you.

I think I'll just have to arrange to drive a few cars. There is also the B8 Passat which is due to be released shortly so this may come through at around the right time too. That is if the MQB Tig doesn't come sooner.
