When it's all done and dusted there'll be a big write-up and I'll included my take-outs/learnings for everyone here too.

The challenge has always been availability of hardware for the Tig and no one tuner/supplier having a complete package.

Plus trying to do it all on a budget with wife, 3 kids and a mortgage.

If I'd known then what I know now I'd probably have done it differently.... and I've just found out earlier this week that my vehicle can now be read over the OBD port so all the tuning tools should be able to do this shortly too
Nice... I think this includes a turbo upgrade ? Proud of you!

No turbo upgrade unfortunately - just a stage 2+ tune.

Hoping this one will give me the right number of horses.

It definitely will. And you are going to be happy with it.

And then you will very well realise something is missing ( top end power) and legend continues ...

I'm not sure if the Viezu is able to yet, but if anybody wants just the stage1 tune, the Autologic tune is very smooth, very refined and an economical choice if you're on a tight budget.

Well the guys at German Auto were able to read it but couldn't write.... so my ECU ended up getting bench tuned which was the original plan anyway.

...and for anyone that hasn't guessed I've changed tunes. After 14 months with Viezu, I've decided to switch brands and now have an APR stage 2+ tune on my car.

I'll do a full write-up of driving impressions of both tunes and will have back dyno results on the same dyno, same hardware and similar ambient conditions.

I haven't been for a proper drive yet but initial first impressions are that it certainly wasn't a backwards step.

Just wandering what is stage 2 & "+" stands for. I thought there is only stage 2 and next step is stage K04?

This is the designation for the APR file. Not 100% sure but think this may be a historical thing.

For MkV GTI they used to do:

    stage 1 = tune only
    stage 2 = tune + DP
    stage 2+ = tune + DP + HPFP
stage 3 = BT + associated supporting hardware

Now with Tiguan we already have an uprated fuel pump so we go straight to stage 2+ - or at least this is equivalent to what would have been a stage 2+ tune in a MkV.... if that makes sense.

That's the way i understand it.

CAI and intercooler don't require any changes to the tune file, however DP and HPFP do so that's why you have 2 separate files - one for the DP and one for the DP + HPFP - hence stage 2 and stage 2+ so you can differentiate between the 2 levels of tune.

Yes that is previous notation, but from mk6 onwards (TSI engines) stage 2+ means stage K04
http://www.goapr.com/products/ecu_up...tsi_trans.html. But sometimes APR also get this mixed up time to time. LOL

    Sorry to disappoint, no K04

All I know is on the documentation I received it says the APR file is stage 2+ V1.2

Decided to get the race gas file instead of valet file. I may run race gas once whereas valet mode I can't see I would ever use.

I'm always upright when dealing with customers and I recall that I told you at the beginning to go with the APR, because I didn't have the bench tuning capabilities and Autologic the second brand that I use couldn't tune at the time (it can now) over the OBD2 port (14 months ago).

Now.... in your write up, I hope you will include every tuner brand who opened your ECU right from the beginning (don't leave the first one out of it), and just so every one knows, the Viezu file that misbehaved in your ECU was bench tuned and all your dealing was with the company in Melbourne, not with me in Adelaide. There were no tuned VAG cars in SA by Viezu SA, that had an issues. I would deal with it differently, you know that.

The condition of your ECU after it was opened by someone else (leave it to you to name the company), would forbid me from going ahead and tune your Tiguan with Viezu file. I told you after the first attempt to tune that your ECU needed to be fully reprogrammed by the VW dealer at that time (not any more, well at least in Adelaide ), this could mean that you would get the never version of the original ECU file and the outcome would be completely different, BUT that didn't happen and to my knowledge there was no communication or advice asked in the Viezu camp by the new dealer in Melbourne how to proceed.

After the first failed attempt to correct your tune in Melbourne, you should get the full refund (maybe even compensation) and maybe you should ask the Melbourne tuner for it, rather than continue to drive unhappy for a year(?) in the car that you didn't enjoy.
