Love seeing road bikes take off from a standstill....even without trying they are miles ahead from the rest of the traffic. Would love to have a run against something quick to see it pull away from me. I've run a few Harley's (which are so damn slow despite that horrible noise they make) but never run anything worthwhile.

I was said Mk6 driver. I wasn't just impressed in the wet - the way this Tig launches from a standstill is genuinely impressive. The DSG tune helps a lot as well; the LC on my GTI has a vague and inconsistent limiter (nothing you can bash against) and no traction besides, but this pops away right at 3k rpm and gets away with just a hint of front wheel slip. It looks super-effective from the outside, and feels properly strong from the passenger seat.

You do feel the extra weight of the Tig (over a Golf) when accelerating hard above, say, 60km/h, and there's no question that it does get breathless in the higher reaches (just like any k03), but that's not taking anything away from this car - it's a mighty impressive bit of kit. Looks the goods too.

Thanks for sharing the drive and also use of the timing gear. I'll have to see if I can edit the video and get this up later in the week.

Not much you can do about the weight of the Tig as a lot of it is built into the chassis. Only thing you can do is add more power

Reality is it's a pretty well-balanced package at the moment. K04 would certainly keep it pulling higher in the rev range but then I'd probably also have to look at upgrading the brakes.

And then if I'm not tracking it then it's questionable as to what real world value this is going to provide. Other than bragging rights. Just trying to justify to myself not spending the money

My recommendation would be to stick with the K03. It's going to be more lively down low (good for daily driving), will save you a ton of cash, will put less strain on the drivetrain, will be easier to insure, and will provide less of an incentive to pull big speeds and get booked.

If you were regularly tracking the car, or taking it down the strip, my recommendation might be different. But we have no full-time strip in SA, and Mallala is a fairly horrible track too, so... pass.

Yes given the hills is pretty much an 80km/hr zone there's not a lot of point I agree.

Another possibility is to go a hybrid K03/K04 turbo. Better down low than a K04, better up high than a K03. That would however require a custom tune (Custom Code possibly?) which may or may not be a route you want to explore at this time.

I have driven K04 TSI's and to be honest not much of a loss down low IMO. Not enough to not make me want 1 anyway

I will be going K04 on the Amarok in due course .....

I hear you. Just trying to justify not spending the money. And you're not helping my cause.....

There's a guy in USA who removed his K03 from Mk6 GTI and had it ported and polished. Got good gains from it (proven on dyno and 1/4 mile). I'll find the thread.

Another guy stole his idea and is now doing the same with a K04 on a Mk6 GTI.

Edit - here's the thread with pics: http://forums.fourtitude.com/showthr...-tsi-ko3-turbo!

I'm gathering this wouldn't require any change to the tune then.

Be interesting to find out the cost... Though sounds like you still may need tore move the turbo which is not a small job.

This guy did the work himself so cost was not much. But yes, turbo needs to be removed, which is a lot easier to do on a FWD GTI. May as well move to a K04 (and port that before installing it) i guess.

This is the guy who just did the port and polish on a K04. He then had the manifold ceramic coated and now is putting a turbo blanket over it to keep heat out of the engine bay. http://www.golfmk6.com/forums/showth...88#post1472588
