Went for a quiet drive today along a country road with a GPS timing device...
Hope you enjoyed the thread.
It hasn't always been smooth sailing but I've managed to get most things sorted.
Looking forward to seeing your build thread once you take delivery of your car

Nice figures Tigger!
It is rediculous that just 10 or so years ago that was supercar times and you have it from a little 4-cyl.
Thanks team_v.
Yes it hooks up pretty well using LC. I think there is possibly another 0.1-0.2sec in it with some lower profile tyres and playing with shift points.
I am currently running 245/45R19 and the next set going on are 245/40R19. Change in rolling diameter will go from slightly oversize to slightly under but give me more torque
Also be interesting to see what effect this has on the dyno figures. The guys on the dyno said it will make a difference as it changes the gearing of the car.
Sub 6 second time is still pretty quick today. There's a 1 second saving just by being able to launch it off the line. Plus slick DSG gear changes will beat manual changes every day of the week. All that is down to advancement in electronics and speed of processors/sensors that are available in today's cars.
I'd like to take a bit more credit for it but that time is nothing to do with the driver but more to do with the engineers that have worked to generate the power and then get it to the road in the most efficient way possible.

If you pull up at the lights next to a manual Golf R/Audi S3 you will give them a very good run for their money with a 5.8sec 0-100kph time.
Due to not wanting to kill my clutch, ive only done the 0-100kph dash a few times, but i think it was 5.68sec was my best according to my P3 guage. Could probably go a bit faster if i reduced mechanical sympathy, but im still on my stock clutch, and dont want to push my luck.
Amazing how much of an advantage the DSG gives a car off the mark and through the first few gears.
My mate has a Mk5 GTI thats stage 2 and DSG and off the line we are neck and neck. Once we are up and moving (eg rolling start) then i can pull away, but off the mark the DSG and lighter weight in his GTI make a big difference.
Though I doubt I'll be using LC at the lights. Sitting with the car hitting the 3,000RPM rev limiter waiting for the lights to go green is a bit try hard if you ask me.
Although OBD port timers are good, I ran some back-to-back times with my Auto-polar FIS+ vs Gtech and I know which time I'd have more confidence in. Not that 0-100 times are really that important just nice to know what it is with some reasonable sort of accuracy.
It's certainly an advantage for the ungifted driver.
Yes did these times with a fellow Mk6 GTI driver and the Tig does lose out a bit due to its weight - it's like adding a couple of extra people into the car. Kind of takes the edge off things. Though he was impressed with the ability off the line in greasy conditions later in the day and his next car will be AWD for sure

Good time there Damien, about exactly where it should be for a Stg2.
Actually, unless you use the LC, the manuals will almost always (at least 95% of the time) win the traffic lights GP. The hesitation off the line in non LC mode costs the DSGs equipped cars too much time to make up in the (normally) short space available.
I watched with amusement a 370Z giving a R a hiding 3 lights in a row the other night .... even though they are almost identical in their official 0-100km/h times, the moment the lights turned green the 370Z jumped 3 cars ahead and kept that distance till the next brake point. DSG did nothing to beat the good old fashioned manual. Poor fool in the R kept on trying and the 370Z kept on winning ... lol

No turbo lag + manual + no AWD bogging down in the 370Z is a winner. If the R was a manual it would have been good to see the difference. Or if the R used LC it might have been a different scenario. Unfortunately the LC is such a process that unless you have a planned race with plenty of time to prepare yourself (eg 1/4 mile drag strip or a runway etc) then you don't have enough time to set it up. Traffic light GP's are not the right place.
Your right Damien - using LC at a set of lights would look pretty silly wouldn't it.
Yes stomping the right foot is about 1 second slower than with LC and it's all in that first bit off the line that you lose all the time. So even if you're up against a "slower" car, if it's faster off the line the DSG car is going to lose every time. Like your friend inthe R who was up against the 370Z.
And yes running LC at the traffic lights GP is a bit over the top.
