Apologies if I missed it, but who was responsible for the DSG tune?
Seems to be a common trait on the DSGs, hate how it refuses to drop to 1st at walk speeds most of the time.
DSG tune went on today. First impressions are that "D" is a noticeable improvement. 1st gear does reengage without having to come to a complete standstill and if you do give it a bit more beans it does rev/hold the gear longer.
S mode is still a bit more suited to the track or spirited driving as if you do give it beans it will rev/hold gear even after you take your foot off the gas. Which is what you'd want on the track or through the hills but in the city is still not that well suited.
It's getting the "wife" test tonight so I'll find out if she notices any difference.
Apologies if I missed it, but who was responsible for the DSG tune?

Harding Performance I believe hp.net.au
Yes I believe Harding Performance are the only ones that do the DQ500 DSG tunes that I am aware of at least anyway. Certainly locally in Adelaide I don't think there are any other options available for Tigs. The guys at German Auto did the work and it was an overnight exercise. They took a read in the afternoon, sent the DSG file off to Germany overnight and put the new file in the next morning. They provided a loan car for me overnight so I could get home and back which was great.
They actually sent through 3 files - standard and 2 harder clamping files. Though as I'm not putting my car on the track I opted for the "standard" file as I think the harder clamping files may make the car less pleasant to drive (although I pretend, it's really not a sports car). Plus the guys at German Auto recommended for longevity of the gearbox the standard file would be nicer on the box.
The car is a lot better to drive in "D" now. It actually does what you exect it to do with the right foot without having to manually select gears / over-ride the gear selection. Not sure why it couldn't come out this way from the factory but it's $1200 and potentially void your DSG warranty to get it done (though they said they'd reflash it back to stock if there were ever any issues).
Actually funny conversation over DSG and dealers... and the whole thing starts to make a bit more sense. The dealers actually get paid a bucket more money if they have to fully rebuild a DSG gearbox than if they catch it early and fix it before it becomes a big problem. The dealers are economically much better off if they have major DSG failures. There is zero financial benefit to VW Service centres to do preventative maintenance on DSG gearboxes (other than what is set out in the service schedule).
Now I'm not saying there aren't problems with some of the DSG gearboxes, but the dealers are actually part of the problem as they are set to financially gain the more gearboxes that fail.

Assumed as much as I wasn't aware of many others doing the tunes on the boxes, and certainly not local here.
Sounds like GA looked after you anyway, still need to visit them for springs in the near future, and may look at a DSG tune as well down the track depending on how things are post tune.
Was the Viezu 'light' DSG remap claim not noticeable, or not applicable to the Tiguan tune?

To be honest if there was a "light DSG tune" it was so light that it wasn't really noticeable.
Either way the light tune doesn't fix the shift point back into first - you have to change the DSG programming to do that.
And the DSG tune also provides much better shifting when you stick your boot in too. It will actually move out of "economy" mode and really pick up and get moving - which is nice. No need to manually shift or drop it into "S".
So ultimately it allows you to control the mood of the car with your right foot - which is exactly how it should be.

Hey tigger!
Had a good time reading your posts mate, seems like you have done a fair bit to your tig!
I'd love to know the prices of all the things you have had done though?
Cheers
Alex
Sorry - can't do that. If my wife found out how much I spent on my car she'd kill me
I have bought a few of the bits off other forum members (rims, RCD510) which were quite a bit less than retail - keep your eyes on the Parts For Sale section to grab yourself a bargain.
Plus I've done quite a lot of the installation work myself - things like lighting upgrades, reverse camera, new head unit, etc.
There's a few things like sway bars, downpipe, ALK, etc that I've taken to a workshop to have professionally fitted as I just don't have the right tools or a hoist at my disposal.
I've also managed to get reasonable deals on a lot of the hardware and/or sold the bits that I've taken off that were never going to be put back (RCD310, basic BT) which helped with some of the costs.
And I can write a lot of it off on tax as I use my car for work, but yes it is a bit of an expensive hobby.
However I will say that once you start modding it's hard to stop..... so be warned
I will, however look to update my earlier post with a suppliers list so people can use it as a starting point. You can probably work out prices from there![]()
