    Tigger is Bleeding!

    Hey all,

I got an awful suprise on Sunday morning when opening the garage to take the Tig out for a drive!

A "large" puddle of engine oil was all over the concrete floor!

It was a puddle , not just a drip. Probably about a dinner plate size.....

As I crouched down to see where it was coming from, it was dripping...so it seems like a sudden and fairly major leak.
It is coming from the drivers side of the engine.

This is the first time I have ever noticed any leaks, and no warning lights for oil level came on.

I minimised any driving until it can be addressed.

I managed to get the dealer to rush a booking for me...(three days later). Taking it in this morning. Will let you all know soon.

    Any Ideas???

Jeez, hope it is just a small issue.
Let us know how it goes.

If you're sure that it was the engine oil, then No, but if it was light colour it's most likely the bevel gearbox oil seal.

    See sticky thread.

Yep, it is definatley very dark engine oil...

The first puddle had a ring shape about the diameter of the oil filter and then spread out from there...could the oil filter have come loose somehow...?

Anyway, off to the dealer now.

No, if it was fitted correctly. It could leak in the seam if faulty, could also leak from the drain plug, if not tightened enough. Oil hose perhaps.

Jeez ... any chance Wally inadvertently touched that part with your warranty work!

I seriously doubt these things just happen for no reason.

    Hi all,

You know I thought exactly the same as you aussietig!! I did ask that question in fact...

It seems that it is a faulty 'rocker cover seal' or gasket.

They said that they need a 'few parts' and that these are not available until middle of next week or so.

In the meantime, I have been given a fully spec'd passat wagen to drive, so I am not too upset this time!

I am annoyed though that these things keep happening, but I gotta say, that wallyworld were very good about all things this time. Very helpful and pleasant to deal with.

And of course I didn't learn and got another Golf which has been relatively good ownership experience over its short life.
    Fair, enough.

To the OP sorry to hear of your cars issues.

Sometimes things happen, but it is the way they are dealt with that sticks in your mind long term - be it good or bad.
I am a having a few issues with my wagon and VW seems very reluctant to do anything about them. I feel as though even with these things rectified it will taint the car long term. Very dissapointing after having a good run with the MK5.
The latest is cracks in the brake discs - car gets driven to the shops by the wife, and has only 4K on it. The cracks were aknowledged by the dealer, but they need to send pics to VW before doing anything about it. They said they would contact me. That was over a week ago, surely its a safety issue and should be addressed promptly one would think.....

Hope you get it all sorted in the end.
