    Hey all,

I got my Tig back yesterday with the assurance that it has all been sorted and fixed.

They replaced the PCV valve (or PVC valve as they put it on the paperwork!! Dummys)

    Also replaced were:
    VW06H103495E
    VW1K0145838AG
    VW06F133073D

They said that excess oil had been sucked in to the PCV assembly, and that this was some of the oil that was leaking out....

The rough Idling issue was related to that same valve, and should now be sorted...apparantly.

Funny thing is, I reported the rough idle issue months ago, and it could have been sorted so much earlier before getting to this late stage.

Well, now to see how it goes...and look for oil leaks in the garage!

    So was that the problem?

Jeez ... that's such an old and very common problem with the mk5 Golfs. Just type in PCV on any VAG forum and you'll lose count of the number of hits (very quickly)!

So yes ... Wally should have had enough experience with this, and to have diagnosed this on day 1!

Also, a PCV failure throws up a fault code on a VCDS scan (from memory).

So how funny is this?.....I got an official survey form from VW australia today that asked me to provide detailed honest feedback about my last lot of dealings with Barloworld Mascot.

Pretty bad timing for them I reckon...as I was indeed very 'honest' in my feedback!

Wonder what will come of it though?

    Ah...that explains things a little.

When getting my Caddy, I made the trip out from Blacktown to Barloworld Mascot. I was not too impressed. First the public toilets there were blocked and what amazed me was people were still using it and it had overflowed. Then after pre-arranging a test drive, the car presented was dirty and had not been even basically detailed for presentation. Next, they tried the good sales guy/bad sales guy and tried to push the cost if installing an alarm from the standard price of $490 up to $700 after which the "good guy" brought it down to $600. The sales guy was not even bothered to come with me on the test drive. I worked in that area of Sydney over 30 years ago, and things have changed. I was given a copy of a map and told to go around and hope I did not get lost!

I was not too impressed and decided not to get the car (no real deal anyway) from them.

I then went to Barloworld Five Dock and again, no real interest. I was told to get the best price I could and they would beat it. I mean, the sales guy wants me to do the leg work.

I then went to Penrith VW (Nepean Motor Group). I was treated very well and they came up with the best price by over $7,000. After I signed the deal, I happened to be called in by one of my clients. They and a group friends had bought VW Transporters and Caravelles from Barloworld Mascot. One of the friends had his Transporter in for a 10,000 km service and they were first told the pads were not serviceable, and then later on that day, that the discs were also unserviceable.

The next of the friends to go in for a 10,000 km service was made aware of this and so he measured the pads and discs (they run engineering companies). Sure enough, he got the call for pads and then discs. When he confronted them with the measurements he had taken, they put him on hold for 5 minutes and told him that the mechanic had mixed up his vehicle with the vehicle on the next hoist!

I was advised to steer clear of them (both sites). You might have to look further afield for a good service garage.

That is quite shocking! I've only been here at VWW for a year, & while i've read good reports about some dealerships, BWorld i've only read bad reports about. What goes around, usually comes around... Go elsewhere, people...

I couldn't downgrade our 1999 Forester to a current Forester, so I bought the Tiguan based on over 2 years of observing reliability on 3 continents.
Heh Transporter - I was just reading a couple of posts of yours on subaruforester.org where you were asking about experiences with the latest Forester as you were looking at a replacement for your '98 Forester for your wife. You said there that it had been 100% reliable with only a rear wheel bearing replaced at 120,000km and had never lost you one day at a dealership in contrast to the 20 days lost on the Transporter. Your positive report there doesn't seem to match up with what you have said above.

I assume you feel happy with the Tig purchase you made. Have there been any negatives? We do really need an AWD replacement and have been considering the Tig and are considering a diesel for the first time. It will get a lot of open road and dirt work as well as towing duties with a camper trailer.
