    Tig Extended Warranty

    Hi,

I am a new owner of a 2011 DSG Tiguan. Havent driven it much but very impressed. I didnt go for the Pacific as I wanted the DSG.

Very happy with the car but hearing some horror DSG stories on this forum.

I have been offered Premium dealer extended warranty but after reading through this forum, I beleive I should go for the VW Allianz extended warranty.

Most the the threads relate to Golfs so my question is is it going to cost approx 2k for the Tig?

Also when do I have to register for the extended warranty? Can it be at the end of my 3 year new car warranty or is there a cut off period from new ownership date?

Apart from that, I'm loving this car.

The last time I asked, it was at any stage within the 3 years warranty.

I got a quote a few months ago for extra 3 years and up to 100000km for $1600 (Underwritten by Allianz), it can be taken up before or at end of the 3rd year, but the premium increases every year.

I'd recommend you to wait til the end of 3rd year to decide for yourself if Tiguan is a keeper. That's what I am doing, because of my love and hate relationship with it.

I find that an interesting statement. I can understand the love bit, but what do you hate about the Tig?

I took out an extended 3 year warranty when I purchased my Tiguan about 6 weeks ago. Cost was about $1900 which was bundled with my finance deal.

It's underwritten by AG Insurance, but one thing I noticed after reading the policy, the warranty becomes void if I trade the car in to a dealer during the extended period but not if I sell it privately.

Is that the common practice with all extended warranties? I would appreciate some feedback regarding this before I start making some inquires with my VW dealer finance dept.

    Cheers

Jbouce, u can take insurance anytime within the first three years. $1600 was the price I could have to pay 4 months ago (I got the car in Feb 2012). I reckon the premium could be at least 50% more in 2014, could be more if DSG becomes a common claim for Tig.

I really hope our wet clutch 7 speed DSG is much more reliable than earlier
varients. But the way it behaves sometimes does not give me much confidence in terms of reliability.

You should ring around all vw dealers around Au, it does not matter which dealer you buy from, but do try non NSW dealers first.

Just bought my 3 year extended warranty from Swann Insurance. They also cover warranties for a number of vehicle manufacturers. Cost for 3 years up to 100,000kms $1750. Discussed DSG issues with their assessor. So far no issues for their customer base. Policy re DSG as far as they are concerned, if it is a failure (i.e. clutch plates) it is covered, if wear & tear it's not. Also, they carry their own risk, they are not just brokers.
