be interested to see with yours, since they are about 2cm greater diameter. I was hoping to go out to about 5cm, therefore giving an extra 2.5 (1 inch) clearance

    cheers
With the front wheels straight the front clearance is 50mm and rear clearance is 40mm.
I haven't got around to taking measurements when the wheels are turned yet but it would go closer so i wouldn't go much bigger really.
Mine are 8.5 wide so that may make the turning clearance a bit less than you are going to be using but it's still pretty close to the back of the front guard when straight and mine isn't even 2cm bigger overall.

I didn't check the rear's as they looked to have more clearance.

thanks, 50mm increase in diameter is only 25mm front and back, so only about 15mm front and back more than yours. Dont need to allow for much fore and aft movement so should be OK, the turning clearances will probably be the telling factor.

Of course while I want to get them sooner rather than later, its hard to justify until my current tyres are worn out, which may be another year away. Have an alternative plan on that, but we'll see. Stay tuned, albeit for probably quite a while!

The weather was fine up in Brisvegas so i took the opportunity to give the car it's first wash.

Firstly, let me spruke the Nanolex sealant that i put on the wheels before i fitted them.
All it took was a quick ghose and a wipe with a chux rag and they were clean and free of brake dust.
I was amazed by this as it used to take me 2 toothbrushes to get all 4 wheels clean on other cars.

I used Duragloss 901 car wash concentrate and warm water and gave it a good going over with the wash mitt.
Came up loking pretty shiny and very clean.
Gave it a dry with a shamwow and then let it airdry a bit more.
Finally gave it a spray with nanolex sealant and buffed it off with a microfibre towel.
Had it looking super glossy and very reflective so hopefully it will do its job.

Will try to get the turned wheel measurements for clearance for you this week Jimbo.

Just another update for you guys.
The RNS510 is in and is working great.

Used it on the weekend to get me through the Red-hill area and it did the job.
I have learnt that when the voice says to turn you have to turn almost straight away though as the voice is more real-time than the map so while the map will say you are still to go aead a little more the voice is correct.

Now i just need to code it so i can have MFD display and steering wheel controls and it will be good as factory.

Also have to work out what to do with the Zenec unit.

I'm trying to get it working John i really am.
I have found a set of igo files and new maps on teh net and i am going to give it one last shot.

The supplier is contacting Zenec directly to see if there is anything they can do.

If not i may just have to sell it on/return it if i can as I have the RNS system in the car and it does everything i need it to.
It just doesn't look anywhere near as nice as the Zenec unit did.

Feel free to borrow it and have a tinker if you want though.

How is the handling of the TIG compared to a golf? is it vastly more like an SUV or is it more like a jacked up golf / golf with stock springs.

It handles itself quite well, i would say more like a lifted golf than a normal suv.
A little bit of body roll but this can be diminished with a rear sway bar and lowering springs.
The APR Tig gettogether we had a few weekends ago managed itself at full pelt through the mountain passes with no casualties.
Taking the car through some roads i know well it feels very planted and surefooted and the Gen 4 Haldex does it's job quite well.

At the driver training day everyone who didn't own a tig was worried it would roll over in the cone slalom but were all pleasantly surprised from the conversations i overheard.

I will be looking into a set of H&R springs as my next upgrade.

Have a look at all the reviews done on Tiguans. All have judged it to be the best handling small SUV ever. In reality it handles (in stock form) like a standard Golf with a bit more body roll.

Do the H&R sport suspension upgrade and it handles pretty much like a GTI in stock form. Having driven stock GTIs/GTDs around a race track there would be nothing in it handling wise compared to a lowered Tiguan.

Bit of a quick update for you all.

Had a fiddle with the Zenec unit and managed to get it to display a map.
The only problem is that it shows up as somewhere in europe (either france or switzerland, can't be too sure)
Going to hopefully resolve this issue and if not then it's either going back to the supplier or going on ebay.

    Every other function works perfectly.
Blutooth with inbuilt microphone works better than any i have tried before.
DVD and divx play in a crisp resolution without needng to be recoded.
Inbuilt MDI allows for connection to my 500GB external harddrive and lets you play divx and music files. (it also has a 3.5mm jack point)
The external looks match better too as they illumination is white and the display is split so you can see the song list and the one currently playing.

Having a chat to VW about the cost of a retrofit reverse camera as the news story about the guy running over his kid has me a tad worried about the rear visibility.
Probably should have optioned that in at the start but i only had the RCD310 so now i have the RNS510 in i should be able to get it done.
