Great stuff Clay. Is that the first time you've done Lakeside? It is quite a technical track. You can shave off seconds with the right approaches (and the last exit before the main straight). Heaps of fun. I would have loved to get mine out there. Congrats on getting yours there. Should be more of it!

First time i have ever been on a track at all.
I had heard lakeside was pretty full on but at the speeds we were doing i found it enjoyable but you did have to keep your witts about you.

I enjoyed it so much i already organised another one for January :p

Going to mount the video camera on the roof racks.

Looks like a heap of fun for sure! So, what are the rules/requirements? Crash helmet? Speed limit? Does your regular insurance policy give cover for this?
The VW day at Phillip Island a couple of months ago was my 1st track experience also. Had me cornering & fanging down the straights faster than i had ever been before, but i was in NOT MY car! Reckon i had the R at 200ish...
    Good Stuff!
ps, digging the new siggy photo, about time!

This was not timed or anything so speeds were apprently limited to 140km/h (this was not enforced).
    No protective clothing required.
Insurance doesn't cover it but everyone was really well behaved as almost all the cars were newer than 5 years old.

Mate of mine that does track days with me took his M3 out there and watched a brand new 911 wipe out the entire left hand side, spun and collected another car! And yes, no insurance

For a full track day you would be doing a fair bit more speed than what we were doing.
It was pretty relaxed and as it wasn't timed you weren't trying to push the car past what you were comfortable with.

Plus we were running with a few older/diesel/NA cars so they kept the pack a bit slower.

Not sure, but I don't think anything attached to the outside of the car is permitted. Guy has a setup where his GO Pro is on the passenger head rest mounts. I might check with him before Jan22

For the next one, I will have a HD Go Pro suction cup mount to the windscreen or outter side window if allowed by QR

They didn't say anything to the contrary and it's literally the size of those tiny led torches.
    I will check though.

I now have a surf key.
All up it cost $50 to source a blank blade and have it cut to fit.
Got the blade off ebay and had it cut by a proper locksmith (those watch/shoe places don't have hte ability to cut VW keys.)

Now i can go to the beach/waterpark etc and not have to worry about sand/salt/water.
The removable key cover thing is actually pretty clever nad very easy to put back on.

Also, I have another happy laps session at Lakeside in 2 weeks
Will get some POV video and some fly-by's for you all.
