It is expensive but there isn't really much else you can do other than a turbo upgrade or engine work to get more power out of these things.

It is a complex system as it has to bypass the 4mo system and it is a 3" pipe.

    Law of diminishing returns unfortunately.

I'm keen on looking into downpipe options as well - i'm considering ordering a techtonics tuning 2.5" DP for the mk6 golf and modifying/fabricating it to fit around the 4motion shaft... a bit of work, but it HAS to be way better than the standard one!! have you seen that thing? it's hideous!

P.S. - a big box/package with "APR" signage on the side of it just arrived by freight on Friday...

    Whats in the box Karl?

Also, no amount of modification are going to make a FWD DP fit the Tiguan. The only way is a custom piece of work I'm afraid. The biggest issue is the bend straight after the flange.

Eventually the retail (from various manufacturers) DPs will hit the market and then all your problems except for price will be solved .....

    EDIT:
Also, something all TSI owners need to consider is the fact that the TSIs use(blows it into the intake via the breather) oil when driven really hard. MK6 GTI's are where this came to light as 10-12laps around a track will use as much a 1l of oil. The only solution apparently is a catch can.

Saw it 1st hand on the advanced driving day and Guy confirmed (and fitted a catchcan) to his MK6 GTI. Apparently 10-12 laps around Queensland Raceway will see the oil light come on.

Since the GTI and TSI Tigs use the same engine it is also a possibility here.

So start investigating catch cans if you drive your Tig hard often ....

damn! i was going to have a go at cutting up and re-welding an existing 2.5" custom downpipe; might have to leave it for now... Do you have any photos of your custom downpipe by any chance? quite keen to see what you mean by "bend straight off the flange" - just looking at it I reckon it would be fine if it was a single cat downpipe... any info/pics would be great Johan!

As for the APR box... It happens to contain a shiny new intercooler, probably overkill right now for stg I but i have bigger plans. Curious to see how it affects performance actually, i've heard a lot of mixed information.

Have you had the Tig out at QR yet Johan? What lap times does the mk6 GTi do?
Just got back from Sydney and saw a whole HEAP of Tigs - good to see!

Okay, more stuff for you guys.

The Mk5/6 auto hatch pop mod is not suitable for the Tiguan.
There is a second catch that requires the button in the grab handle to be presed before it will release.
It is also quite difficult trying to fit the locking ring back onto the gas struts.

And here's main item in the box!

nice! you're gonna love the Carbonio mate - sounds so good.. did you get the stage II to go with it? looks awesome having the whole lot in there

Installed APR intercooler today for the record, getting it in wasn't that difficult, but the silicone hoses needed modifying - an inch on each. Will post an update once i've taken it for a proper run

I just got the intake box, not the stage 2 piping as i have heard it isn't really necessary.
The noise is great from the ones i have heard.

Let us know how the intercooler goes
