    TDI Driving Experience

    Hi All,

I picked up the car last week FINALLY after 6 months long waiting. It was worth it and I love the baby. I've been driving every day to work since and some after work, just couldn't get my hands off the steering wheel.

There are a couple of things I've noticed and I would like to share with you and see you if you have the same experience:

    1. taking off is a bit laggy and not as responsive as I'd expect
    2. the brake is very sensitive
    3. Under the car, along the two sides, there is something looks like saturated oil/wax in creamy/white colour hanging off the ceiling. I only noticed this today. It's not easy to been seen unless you kneel down or check from the distance. Is it some sort of leaking?

Have any of you tiguan drivers had these experience?

    Cheers

    1) Yeah, you soon get used to this and start correcting for it my anticipating when to accelerate. I hardly notice it anymore. One of the things I've wondered is whether chipping it would solve this. The turbo in the TDI isn't that big so it spins up pretty quickly, but there is still a noticeable lag.
    2) You're not the first to comment on this. Again, you get used to it. I've never had a problem with it, but have noticed that I have a light foot on the brake. I have tested it braking with my left foot (which I'm less co-ordinated with for braking) and ended up testing the seatbelts when doing so... guess I need to practive the soft left foot braking.
    3) No idea what you're talking about with this. Might be worth keeping an eye on and asking your dealer about.

    Happy Tigging!

    3. You will find it in all hollow spots under the car. It is most likely anti-corrosion protecting wax, just leave it there.

    3. Did your dealer gloss up the tyres upon delivery? Probably used Armour All or something similar and if he caked it on, driving around, particularly at high speed causes it so spray up under the underside of your car. I got it all over mine in the first week after picking up the car.

    TDI Driving Experience

Took the tiguan for a longer drive yesterday (than the normal city driving), about 300KM which consisted of 100km of stop start and 200km of crusing at 100km/h.
    Observations:

    1. Acceleration 60-80 fantastic, 80-100 average (may need remapping???)
    2. Very smooth and quiet
    3. Handling around corners very responsive and hugs the road and works better with Sport setting on the Adaptive Chassis Control

Overall extremely pleased, cant stop driving it. I have to fight with my wife so I can get it off her.

I think may go down the path of remap and cold air intake if it is going to help with 80-100 acceleration, I think I have to ask the experts to see if it is achievable??????

That may make you the first one on this forum to remap the TDI Tig. I'd be very interested to know what your results and thoughts are.

I've done some more research (and confirmed it with jjj on the MyTiguan forums) and the tiptronic box is rated up to 450Nm of torque:
"From the 2006 Passat onwards, the gearbox model is designated 9M, and this has a capacity of 450Nm. When you compare the ratios with that of the Freelander 2"
(which is rated to 400Nm as a matter of interest)
"The previous Passat (and Jetta) model used the 09G version, which was only good for 250Nm. With the updating of the Diesel engine from 1.9l to 2.0l capacity, the rating of the transmission had to be updated as well."
My biggest concern with the chipping was whether the box would take it as I thought the Tig's TDI has been detuned specifically to protect the transmission. Apparently that's not the case. Knowing this, when my Tig is no longer in warranty I am probably going to get the remap done. Anyone that does it before me will be good sources of knowledge as to whether it is worth it.

I will probably go down the path of remap.
I will visit Volkspower (Dean) in a couple of weeks and have a closer chat to him.
I spoke to him on the phone and he said I should go for the remap first before I spend anymore money on cold air intake.

    Will keep you posted

As of about a month ago there was about 20 APR'd TSI Tiguans and over 20 Oettingered TDI's running around Australia.

Surely somebody somewhere must be able to post some feedback on the way it goes ......

EDIT: And yes, do the remap 1st it will make the biggest difference ....
