    Tail gate won't shut!

    Hi guys,

So as of today my tailgate won't close!
When I close the boot, the mechanism doesn't lock and the boot just bounces a little and settles.
When I unlock the car and press the button that usually opens the boot, it makes a bzzzzzzzz sound for 2-3 seconds and stops.
However the boot light turns off when the tailgate is in the closed position.
I have a feeling the motor for the lock is broken, what are your thoughts?
I've had the car for 3 years, done 75,000km.

Try using a ballpoint pen to cycle the latch mechanism back and forth.
If it latch on the tailgate is closed then put the pen through the hole and unlock it (using the handle firstly, then in desperation the keyfob boot release. Apply a little pressure as you do so. The latch should rotate out of the way to leave a gap, releasing the pen. From this position, all should work normally again. Maybe a little grease.

    Hi Sanman,

The latch is open, sorry I didn't specify.
The problem is that the latch won't close and lock. I actually tried pushing the latch to the closed position, there's a faint click but springs back to open position.

It's going to have to come apart mate. Seen a similar one on a Polo recently and part of the release mechanism had unscrewed itself. You could hear the screw in the bottom of the tailgate. Took me 20 minutes to pull it apart workout where the screw was from and put it back together.

If you have any mechanical sense, it would be easy to do.

Can't advise how to get the trim off the Tiguan though.

nasty noise. I assume you're out of warranty, first fill it full of RP7 in desperation.
If no luck, then you can start pulling it apart. Most of the tailgate trim is held by spring clips. Firmly grab and tug straight out the trim cover above the rear window, as it comes loose, prise it off with your fingers. Work your way down the sides. 2 T20? torx screws hold the bottom of the inner tailgate trim, remove, then pop off the inner cover. Solenoid mechanism is exposed and then you can see how to pull off the latch if required.

I've got exactly the same problem - just happened the other day.

How did you get this one resolved 203132?

I managed to get the boot to close after numerous attempts, but now am afraid to open it if I can't get it to close again... really don't have time to be playing with the car right now either.

What is your final outcome of fixing the latch? P/N: 5M0 827 505E, if you did get it fix by VW workshop, how much would that roughly cost?

Is a white plastic screw winder snap as I have pulled everything apart n found the p/n:5M0 827 505E. Thinking of getting a similar part number 5K0 827 505A which is for golf GTI but wasn't sure how much different is the latch... Is anyone there familiar with these two part numbers n kindly explain the different?
