there's another 12v outlet in the console...
In an MY13 103TDI Tiguan, is there an easy way to remove the storage compartment cover in front of the gear shifter that has the 12volt outlet in it? Trying to use a belkin power adapter for the TomTom, but the cover gets in the way a bit!
Thanks
Kenneth

The other thing you could do is to upgrade your head unit to an RNS510.
There's a few people that had done this retrofit - http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/foru...uan-74319.html
Problem solved.
Plus you free up your power socket for something else

This is for Mum's new car so using the current TomTom is a cheaper option than the new head unit, just want to remove this cover without breaking it...
also, I am aware of the second outlet in the console, but similar problem - the console isn't big to begin with and the dual USB belkin adapter just takes up space there too, plus will need to run a longer cable to the windscreen.

Understand.
The other option is to see if you can find a different power adapter to suit the Tom Tom that has a smaller format.
I haven't delved into that part of the dash so can't help with pulling that bit apart.
You could always take it to your local VW dealer and get them to help you. If they break it taking it apart then at least they can replace it for you.

that part is a bit weak to begin with.
I am a very careful owner, yet it fell in one day while I was plugging in my charger.
VW had to replace the whole assembly under warranty as the clips couldnt be repaired apparantly...
As silly as it sounds, what about the 12v charge point at the rear airvents???
cable could run neatly between the seats...

Bin the TomTom and get a new Garmin with free map updates for the life of the unit! they are less than $100 and their power plug fits in neatly to the front console socket!

It doesn't seem to be a very strong piece. But Sanman might be on to something with a smaller charger. Will have a hunt around the shops and see what I can find. Thanks for all the help!

You can buy them with one plug and the three sockets on the end of a cord.
Try Jaycar at Caboolture or even Repco had some a while ago.
I got mine from Aldi it has 3 ciggy sockets and a USB slot Was about $19
