If you have the air-con on is the stop/start then disabled?

In the 118TSI the engine stays off even with the AirCon going. Maybe it behaves differently with a manual.
Thanks, I was just thinking outside the box for a back door method of turning off stop/start for those who bought it but then decided it wasn't for them.

Personally think stop/start tech is excellent. Saves fuel engine re-starts instantly and none of the cars systems go off line, air con, lights etc.. all keep running, thanx to the heavy duty battery and brake energy recovery system. Noticed the engine will restart sometimes before the brake is released, probably due to the battery getting a bit low, smart stuff
It is relatively smart, if the air temp goes up to a set point, it will restart the engine to stop the cabing getting too hot. But I'd still argue the fuel cost saving v. wear and tear and cost of battery etc, and still think it's just plain dangerous. There's no way it can start and get you off the line in under a couple of seconds, and by that stage it's probably too late.
Plain dangerous is a bit strong I think. Doesn't take a couple of secs As soon as pressure of the pedal is reduced engine starts. Wear and tear is perception, it is designed for the system, ie heavy duty battery and brake energy regen to keep batt charged. If u r worried about wear and tear keep it in the garage, only joking!
Agree, probably a bit strong, but my experience does highlight the potential dangers with the system - every second can be important. I really doubt any financial saving though, especially factoring additonal cost of battery etc. Which kind of makes the system a bit reduntant. I'd much prefer a reversing camera as standard, rather than 'Bluemotion' - it's really just a marketing strategy IMHO.
The reason why we have electric cars, hybrid cars, and stop/start technology is so that manufacturers can meet the US Fleet Average Gas Mileage requirements. All this means is that while performing the official drive cycle, the vehicle achieves the required gas mileage so the manufacturer does not get heavy fines.
Hmm, that AGM Varta battery will last looong time (probably a better financial benefit than a few dollars saved on the fuel) in my daughter's Tig, she already made a habit (in less than 3days) to switch it off as soon as she starts. I checked in VCDS and it should be possible to permanently turn it off. Other handy things in VCDS that I noticed are; the counter for - how many times was car started, how many auto re-starts, which could be handy in the case when your DPF fails (the technician can see if you do a lot of city driving). Yeh, and a lot of other info about the battery incl. capacity and aging,
