    Servicing - Time vs. KM

    Hi all,

Apologies if this has been answered previously (Transporter, I'll expect nothing less than a stinging rebuke if it has!) but I couldn't see it via a search.

Question is - I'm about to start a new job where my drive distance to work is significantly reduced, and barring any big trips, I'll be lucky (or unlucky as I love driving the Tig!) to do 4000-5000km per year.

So with that in mind, I'm seeking opinion re. Service Intervals - is it really necessary to do a service every 12 months if, for example, I've only done 5000km since the previous one? (will keep Service Schedule til out of Warranty)

Does oil etc. need changing on a time basis, or in reality just after a KM number?

    Thanks for input in advance

12 months or 15,000km between services, whatever comes first as far as i have been told.

    12months/15,000km whichever is first.

Your oil will be sparkling clean but that's better than full of moisture & sludgy.

How about driving under severe driving conditions?
I would say that, it should be serviced every 6 months or 7,500km which ever comes first. Especially, if you want to keep your car for 10+ years. Just checked your signature and it is the TDI, so no, the oil won't be sparkling clean as some would think.

I would just get the oil and oil filter changed in engine every 6 month and the service every 12 months.

Thanks all - appreciate the info. I'm not a 'mechanical' guy so wondered about it. Cheers!
