No, just make sure the surfaces are clean.
As for o-rings on pipes, some silicone spray helps with installation and sealing. Don't use grease or vasoline. It'll react with the rubber.
Hey guys im still getting use to these rubber gaskets but I want to double check.
For my water pump do i require any sort of sealant

Great fellas thank!! Use to my landcruiser
Hi, our MY12 132 is leaking small amounts of coolant, intermittantly. Maybe 100ml a week. And out onto ground, not into engine. Just had 90k service and all was fine. Took it to local repairer today, couldn't find a drop, but found coolant stains on underbody tray towards front. Maybe it leaks most when cold, sitting in garage judging by the small wet patches on floor. Garage guy said it could be anything from head to pump or hoses, but cannot tell without an expensive take apart. So suggested living with it until something worse happens.
Anybody had similar?
Put it under pressure and look?
Water pump is at the front of the motor under the intake manifold, at the gearbox end.

Thanks Umai, that's one of the things the guys did today as thought it might be header tank or radiator core. Couldnt find a drop. Didnt leak for them when running hot or cold or stopped. Topped it up to top line in bottle last week, now just under minimum level and damp garage floor. I might leave it at that level and see what happens. Maybe a hose pinhole thing.
Just checked a bit more myself. The big lowest radiator hose drivers side just under the belts and pulleys feels very soft and empty - or is that some sort of air hose? Goes to a corrugated molded plastic thing that goes to big metal inlet right rear of engine.

That's one of the boost hoses for the turbo system.

Happy it doesnt seem to have coolant in it then! Two other questions.
1: The service guys filled it with green coolant - a few vids online say use the VW pink only...does it matter?
2; The reservoir bottle hoses have crusts around the hose inlets. Is that a potential problem - I mean if there's crust there maybe there's more elsewhere. VW make it so bloody hard to see anything and I can't get it up on stands at my place so have to rely on mechanics - who obviously don't want to spend half a day taking it apart to find a loose hose clamp.
It isn't overheating and oil is clear as is coolant, so I think I'll leave it and see if it gets better or worse...
