I went to some trouble to fit a reverse camera for my AVC9000-1. It worked fine (am waiting for a better camera installation). But I was surprised how useless it was in practice. You listen to the reversing beeps, look in the mirrors and all around you, but never down on the dash somewhere. It impresses the passengers, and looks the part, but actually you don't look at it. Bear this in mind before you spend $500 upgrading your system.
TDI tiguan in the drive. ParkAssist, comfort, fogs
Service every 15,000, new fault code every 7,500km

It's shocking being able to see the whole blind spot behind the car and with the use of the mirrors this gives you 100% visibility of what's behind you.[/sarcasm]

The Tiguan has the same problem the Golf does and that's poor rear visibility.

I use it all the time even if it's a quick glance to check before reversing but often it's eyes on the screen most of the time with a quick glance to the mirrors depending on the location. If you have a decent camera installed in the correct location they are worth their weight in gold.

Add in OPS and this shows you where and how far off obstacles you are.

You only have to prevent yourself from hitting one item (bollard, bike, kid, pet etc) in the whole time you own the car for it to pay for itself. OPS/PDC is not infallible and whilst it's a good system as is the camera they both compliment each other but if I had to choose one only I'd go with the camera.

Plus the added benefit is that it can see more than you can, the camera isn't behind tinted glass and it picks up a lot more than your eyes can. You can be reversing in a dark area but this camera really turns night into day. I'll try and take some photos tonight that will show this but haven't had much luck so far with the difference being obvious.

You might have a good point. I think it depends from where you're reversing and where to, if there are no people or anything moving fast I would prefer the camera or cameras and big screen. If there are people around I prefer to look around me.

I'm looking at this to buy for my T5 as reversing camera/screen dashboard setup. http://www.ryda.com.au/Polaris-7-Sup...or-p/cm700.htm

But for that money, the one can have AVC9000-1 or similar.

    Hmm, hard decision.

I haven't looked... but I have the RCD510 sitting in my garage - as I upgraded to RNS510. I'm away for work at the moment - but can check when I get home in a week or so if no one else knows. (if I remember)
