    Running costs

Hi Tig TDI owners. Can I get an idea of running costs from you as I need them to estimate costs for my novated lease.

The figures I'm working on so far are per annum:
    Fully comprehensive insurance $1100
    Annual fuel for 15000km's $1800 (avg 9l/100km @ $1.33/l)
    Tyres (1 set every 2 yrs) $250 p.a
    Service and maintenance $600
    CTP & Rego $730

Does that sound about right? Is there anything I've forgotten? For the fuel I'm working on the assumption that most of the driving will be in town which is why I've gone with a conservative 9l/100km estimate. Would like to know if that's about right.

Thanks in advance for your help

I called Beaurepairs and Bridgestone and both quoted around $250 per tyre depending on which brand you go for.
So I'm not sure whether $250 per set per annum is a sufficient estimate. Depends on how much Ks you do. I've been told you can get about 40000Ks from them.

Given the tiguan tire size of 215/65R16 (if you have the std tires on the TDI) you have a choice of passenger tyre or SUV. Generally SUV cost more but it seems that Wrangler All Weather cost $273 which is I've been told is pretty good for its price. It's for both off-roading and highway.

1 set of tyres every two years sounds about right, but that only gives you $500 for a set of tyres. Have you priced rubber for the Tig yet, as that sounds a little low.

My assumed expenses for my novated lease (TDI as well) are as follows:
    Insurance - $850
    Fuel - $3,500
    Tyres - $500
    Maintenance - $1,000
    Rego - $650

I'm planning on 25k+ km though. And I've way overestimated fuel, deliberately, as they can always give it back to you. I also figure that if for whatever reason I don't make my nominated km's, then the extra in the budget should make up most of the shortfall due to the increased FBT.

Always better to have the fleet company owe you money than the other way round in my book. Of course, if they're at risk of bankruptcy, my stance on that would change!

    Ben.

A long time ago I made myself spredsheet.
You can use it to compare cars running cost.
Just replace my numbers with yours.

    Thanks guys.

I hadn't realised tyres were that expensive. I'll put the estimate to $450 a year then (as I'll get the GST back through novating). Your fuel estimate is MASSIVE High-Fidelity! I think I'll go a little more conservative and rather pay for a tank or 2 out of my own pocket if need be.

Otherwise I think I'm happy. Appreciate your input and the spreadsheet.

Yeah, just checked the price of Bridgestone Dueler HP Sports and they're about $253 each, so I definitely need to up my estimate
