This is with the guys at Canberra VW Cantre in Belconnen. Apparently it isn't too hard to get around, they just have to get the ECU out and flash it on the desk, like you said.

I will be getting it done in March. I will repost the results...
    Hi Bungers

That's what the lads at AutoWerks explained to me, that generally it's an easy flash, maybe 30-45 minutes and you drive away feeling a few more horses under your right foot! Worst case, it's the 1 in 10 that's been VAG locked (or as aussietig so eloquently put it, VAG Chastity Belt), we'll have to pull the ECU and it may take an extra hour.

Problem is, it was the even rarer version, where the remap does not exist for this 'specific' build month and year. So I believe we have to wait for APR to actually develop a slightly different ECU remap for this particular flavour of Tig.

Is your Tig an MY10 or MY11, I think you'll be schweet if your a 10, but those of us with 11's (what can I say) have to play the waiting game.

I guess the bonus here is that by the time the flash is ready, my wait for my Golf R will have almost halved, which can only be a good thing (trying really hard to put a positive spin on this!!!)

Luckily mine is a MY10, so I should be laughing! Let's hope your wait isn't too long - would like to hear some comparisons between the R and the Tig (I know, miles apart...)

To be honest, I've started looking at all things V-Dub, so don't be surprised if I end up biying a Passat CC or a bloody Touareg if one becomes available in the next few months!

    Why bloody Touareg?

The Touareg is very civilized car, good fuel economy and as sharp brakes as small Golf, definitely worth while to wait for. After having one for 3 years, I don't see us at the moment replacing it with any other brand. The new one will be much nicer in and out, is also lighter, so it will have a better performance and fuel economy.

Hey-Zeus...I finally get a bite! Could I get any further from a Golf R?!?!?! Probably twice the price for the v8, but hey, what a beast of a vehicle! Problem is, how long until we can actually test drive one, let alone get an Australian on-road price? How the hell does NZ get them before us?

There was an R50 in Belconnen for a while - might still be there. Set your sights higher son!!!

NZ get's EVERYTHING before us, and all the stuff we don't get as well! I visited a dealer in Christchurch when I was there in March and couldn't believe what was on offer; Sciroccos, new Polo (at least 6 months before we got them), Tiguan R, not to mention all the Skoda models that were available.
2008 VRS Wagon. Yellow, very yellow!

Of course, remortgaging the house to drive an 'old model' vehicle for $150K...makes perfect sense to me!!! Just doesn't make perfect sense to the other half...bugger it all!!! I'd give my left nad for an R50...and am hoping that VAG in their inimitable wisdom bring it back in a few years, if not sooner. I really would like to see a fully tricked Treg v3, and in an R flavour...I'd probably sell the house and live in it anyways!

Being an NZ'er who has lived in Oz now for 10+ years...I was only too well versed in our superior automotive market. Hell, you can import 6 vehicles personally yourself per year over there without so much as a question being asked by customs. Shame import duties are so prohibitively expensive (even withthe value of the NZ Peso at the mo'), otherwise I'd be booking a boat and loading it up with new V-Dubs for you all!!!

After missing out on my APR upgrade (and I'm sure the Tig's been feeling sad about it n' all) I decided to give it the Nanolex treatment...

2 hours later and she's looking pretty sparkling. Stone chips on the front plastic grill are about the only damage noticeable so far.

Think I might order a blacked out grill as my first cosmetic. Going to wait patiently until the whole APR thing comes around.
