Can't help with the ABT, but can vouch for the APR as mine was the first Tig they tested it on in Australia. Hardings had US APR guys out here working on the map for our Tigs. I spoke with one of them a couple of times. Very interesting, to say the least, about how wrong some maps can be eventhough they may 'feel' OK. They had my Tig for about 3 days testing etc to suit our conditions. ABT may do the same thing, I don't know. Then again they may do it better, or not? Point is, I guess I'm confident in the APR mapping and their ability to get it right.

Thanks Clip, you're confirming what many have for me already...that APR is a solid choice when it comes to modifications.

OK, done, and I've booked in the first modification, APR Stage 1 ECU remap by the friendly chaps up at AutoWerks in Charmhaven. Locked in for tomorrow morning. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of difference this makes in the Tig, and seeing how long it takes me to go back for further mods!

    Awesome!
Let us know how it goes for you

Probably own't be as noticeable as you have the 147 and Clip and I have the 125 but it is still a big jump.

Hope you like it. You should notice the torque jump in particular.

    Bugger...

Took the Tig up to AutoWerks this morning and was greeted by Simon. Unbeknown to me, apparently there is the odd Tig that has the ECU locked by VAG, that needs removal for flash...wouldn't you bloody know it, mine was one of them. So an hour and a half later...bad news! There is no program for my particular Tig (build month and year), and apparently this is little-known news. I now have to wait for APR to develop a specific program for my ECU to gain Stage 1.

I guess someone has to be the guinea pig every now and again...this was my turn.

Good to meet Simon at AutoWerks though, and gain a feeling for him and the team. Looks like they'll be pleased to tinker with my new toy (and the new R toy when it arrives). So, looks like a 2-3 month wait (maybe sooner) for the program. This (I believe) is not common knowledge, so new buyers (and upgraders) beware!

    Sorry to hear that!

AFAIK, this new VAG chastity belt has well and truly stumped other tuners as well (like Superchips), when I last enquired with them.

If it's any consulation, it gives you more time to run-in the engine properly anyway.

VAG Chastity Belt - damn fine analogy, that one! It won't do them any favours if they continue with this hobbling of their ECU's. Tehy have been up until now known for their ease of modification, and I would strongly suggest that a certain chunk of their popularity comes from this ease of tuning. And let's face it, how many ECU modifications have resulted in warrantiable repairs being required?

    Hi Paul
I had the same with my 125, drove down to Gold Coast on holidays and was all set for the Stage 1, booked in and...guess what, mine was one of the ones they hadn't seen yet...

had to wait a full year, my next trip down to the Coast, before I finally got it done...

    no regrets though...

FWIW, here's the response I received back in August 2010 which explains this "chastity belt" a bit better:
New Tiguan has a new encryption in the ECU so can’t be done using Bluefin. It needs to be done direct to the ECU. The new codes in the ECU mean we can read it but can’t upload news files via the OBDII. Has to be done direct to the board. And the ECU counter also clicks over each time it’s done. The early ones we can reset, but can’t on the latest ones. No one can. Will be able to be done via OBDII but not for 18 months or so, as Bosch are not that keen on giving out the codes, as you can imagine!
Have not bothered to check the status since, given the estimated timeframe indicated.

    Hi Rozza

Same thing happened to me (last post here)

This is with the guys at Canberra VW Cantre in Belconnen. Apparently it isn't too hard to get around, they just have to get the ECU out and flash it on the desk, like you said.

I will be getting it done in March. I will repost the results...
