Rough running and check engine light after remap :(

    Hi All,

Got my car remapped (APR) a few days ago - worked great for a few days, then I started it up this morning, went well for about 10 seconds of driving - then suddenly check engine light came on and lost a lot of power, started running rough, struggling to climb in revs etc.

What's more likely, something wrong with the remap, or something separate to the remap?

Trying to figure out where I should take it to diagnose (I don't have VCDS cable etc to read the fault), and if it's even safe to drive right now.

Could possibly be a faulty coil pack. I had one go on my 125TSI when I had it tuned.

You could try reverting back to the "stock" tune to see if that helps.

Otherwise you'll need VCDS or an OBD scanner to diagnose what is going on. If you have a misfire on a particular cylinder and shift the coil pack and the fault moves with the coil pack then you know it needs to be replaced.

You can get a set of 4 x R8 coil packs from BMR Autowerkes (Sydney based) for $150: R8 Coil Pack (OE/Genuine) 4 pack - BMR Autowerkes

These are a higher rated coil pack - it's not uncommon for the stock ones to fail.

Thanks. Looks like it may be a coil pack - i just took the connectors off one by one and one of them made no difference to the sound. If I upgrade to the R8 coil packs will I need to change my spark plugs as well?

No just change coil packs and you'll be fine. Single one from the dealer is about $120. Compared to a set of R8 ones (with red tops) for $150 it's a no brainer really.

Replaced the coil packs with some R8 ones and it's all up and running again. Thanks for the help!

Good to hear you got it sorted.

Also you get an extra 5kW just from the red tops!!!

Very common for a tune to push things past threshold, they may be operating at max on the stock tune, push a half dodgey injector etc past stock and it plays up. Biggest pain in tuning is diagnosing car problems once tuned.
