Hey mate - I have Rhinorack pod and racks and am quite happy with them. The only thing is I dont have any experience with other brands, like Thule although I reckon their pods are more aesthetically pleasing.

These are the rails I have: Rhino Rack - Roof Racks for VOLKSWAGEN Tiguan 4dr SUV (with factory rails) 05/08 On

I'm sorry, but I don't have the size box, however it is similar to this: Rhino Rack - Roof Top luggage Box - 81003

G'day,blu... i'm quite happy with my rhino racks, they look great & are quite strong. I would definitely consider the whispbar from prorack also... Would go with either of these before OEM.
Cant help with pods, though... I do have a narrow mesh basket (400 x 2000) that i use from time to time for camping that works great. There's a pic of the set-up on here somewhere...

    Cheers!

I've been very happy with my ProRack Whispbar. Owing to it's low profile I don't think you'll find a better looking roof rack out there. Just be careful though, I don't think theyll work if you have a sunroof, also owing to their low profile.

I'm not sure what ProRack roof boxes are like but whatever the brand, try and get the same brand of box as your racks as you'll find that they'll be made for one another.

For anyone interested I went to have a look at a few options today.
Thule roof racks were $270. What I liked about these was the adjustment to lock onto the rails was built into the locking device itself - no need for extra tools. Didn't like that it was a mix of silver and black.
Rhinorack roof racks were $289 (SXB series). Liked that they were all black and looked nicer than Thule type that salesman suggested.
Didn't like that it needed Allen key to tighten onto rails.
Thule pacific 200 box 460 litre was $649
Thule pacific 100 box 370 litre was $555
These looked ok but downside was they only open from one side.
    Rhino 440 litre was $649
    Rhino 400 litre was $595
These looked nice and have dual opening. 75kg load

We bought our Tiguan specifically for touring with a camper trailer. We use a roof box, kayak carrier interchangeably with bike rack.
We found that Thule offers all of these items that fit together very well.
A roof box and kayak carrier side by side it critical for us, because the kayak generates extra gear.
    Here are some pictures:

    Thanks Des,
Ours was never really bought as the main family car etc... have my jetta for that.. but now its time to get rid of the jetta we are looking at our options...
I would love a passat wagon for the room etc but the mrs doesn't like them.. i am also not convinced with the engine/trans combos... so we were looking at an A4 wagon(avant) but probably gonna be too expensive...
So we will prob either get another jetta (not liking the engine/trans combos on this either) or get a golf GTI.
If we go the golf then i need to be able to carry more stuff in the Tig as this would become the travel car etc.. hence the need for the roof box etc...

    Thule GL961 WingBar / GL861 AeroBar

I've noticed that Thule is advertising a new crossbar on their website. Has anyone seen or bought the new WingBar yet, or seen it for sale in Australia?

For an upcoming roadtrip I want to get a good setup for the Tiguan, making the most use of the roof rail capacity of 100Kg. I think the Thule combination RT757 and GL861 is the only setup (including Rola and Rhinorack) that uses this load limit fully.

I've also got a kayak I want to load on there at times (although not on the roadtrip) and I'm interested in anyone's experience with the Thule Roller 815.
